Torn in Two Lyrics

Is this the way it's gotta be?
Ignite the fire inside of me
Embrace the life of tragedy
A tide of war and broken dreams

I am torn in two
Hold on, hold on
We're barely alive
I am faded through
Hold on, hold on
The fallen arise
I will fight this war for you
And let the dawn of love survive
Broken, I crawl back to life

Is this the fate we fall between?
Deface the life inside of me
Drain the heart of atrophy
And take away the remedy

I am torn in two
Hold on, hold on
We're barely alive
I am faded through
Hold on, hold on
The fallen arise
I will fight this war for you
And let the dawn of love survive
Broken, I crawl back to life

(Please hold on)
I am torn in two
Hold on, hold on
We're barely alive
(Please hold on)
I am faded through
Hold on, hold on
The fallen arise
Please hold on
I will fight this war for you
And let the dawn of love survive
Broken, I crawl back to life

Hold on
(RISE)
Hold on
(RISE)
Hold on
(RISE)
Hold on

Cover art for Torn in Two lyrics by Breaking Benjamin

This song to me is about being way too deep into a hellish relationship with someone you love, where you can't cut yourself free of it & you hate what it has turned you in to. Love at its darkest core can turn someone into a monster as it can burn away anything & everything inside us till nothing mush else is left. Also just as a side note, I know lead singer Benjamin Burnley is experiencing a lot of pain & tiredness lately due to an undiagnosed mystery illness, so this song in part could be speaking to the strain of that as well.

My Interpretation
Cover art for Torn in Two lyrics by Breaking Benjamin

If you hadn't noticed already, Breaking Benjamin's songs have had more overt Christian messages, I believe that all somewhat started around Phobia's release and Ben's Grandpa's death. I believe this song correlates between the verse from the Bible:"I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body." (1 Phil. 23-24).

"Is this the way it's gotta be? Ignite the fire inside of me" I see as a call to God for an awakening of his spirit.

"I am torn in two Hold on, hold on We're barely alive I am faded through Hold on, hold on The fallen arise I will fight this war for you And let the dawn of love survive Broken, I crawl back to life"

"I am faded through", Ben is making the transition from life on earth to life in Heaven (depart with Christ), "I will fight this war for you... broken I crawl back to life" connects with "but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body." to try and fight a for Christ, whether it's a literal war like a crusade or making disciples.
