This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:

Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart

I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

This song is really deep to me, and I think I somehow understand the meaning of it. Since I'm often searching for lyrics' meaning, I thought that it could be of some use for someone.
(I'm no an English native speaker, so I'll be short. Sorry about the grammar mistakes.) I think that this song is about the love of someone. She is in love with someone, but before, she didn't see "him", she saw his mask. Now she's costantly trying to take him back to who he was before, thinking, that this was the real him. She refuses to accept his true self, missing the old one, the one with who she fell in love. She's disappointed because he's not the one she thought he was.
But I think it could also be the opposite. Maybe she was hiding herself from him, trying to protect her bad sides from his sight. This way, he would fall for her. She did her best for that. But now, because of that, she feels like she doesn't know him, and him neither. Her lies drove her mad, she feels so guilty about it but she can't do anything now. He's slowly discovering it, so he feels bad too.
I may not be correct, and if you think so, please let me know, I would like to understand this song better.
I think the song is about an old relationship that she was incredibly happy in breaking down: "I'm stuck I've said too much, said the wrong thing". She gets into more relationships to try and numb the pain but it's not the same: "I haven't opened up... to another man who controls the pain". She struggles to love a current, later partner the same way because she's constantly thinking of the old relationship: "Thinking you remind me of someone I can face no more". In the end she regrets the new relationship because she can't get invested in it like her new partner does: "While you're busy diving down I feel alone".
