I think that this song is about the love of someone. She is in love with someone, but before, she didn't see "him", she saw his mask. Now she's costantly trying to take him back to who he was before, thinking, that this was the real him. She refuses to accept his true self, missing the old one, the one with who she fell in love. She's disappointed because he's not the one she thought he was.
But I think it could also be the opposite. Maybe she was hiding herself from him, trying to protect her bad sides from his sight. This way, he would fall for her. She did her best for that. But now, because of that, she feels like she doesn't know him, and him neither. Her lies drove her mad, she feels so guilty about it but she can't do anything now. He's slowly discovering it, so he feels bad too.
