This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,
I can make you want me
Each time i make you taste me
Looks like you're goin' down girl
'cause each time you make me taste it
I know you can't fake it
Damn the way that you scream girl
Sometimes it makes me wonder
When i know that i'm not playin' round
Feels like i'm sinkin' into you
I didn't want to make you love me
I just wanted to drive you crazy
It's just you're so bad baby
'cause each time you make me feel it
You know i can't fake it
Looks like i'm going down girl
Maybe it's time
For me to go
I don't want to hurt
No more
Sinking into you
Each time i make you taste me
Looks like you're goin' down girl
'cause each time you make me taste it
I know you can't fake it
Damn the way that you scream girl
Sometimes it makes me wonder
When i know that i'm not playin' round
Feels like i'm sinkin' into you
I didn't want to make you love me
I just wanted to drive you crazy
It's just you're so bad baby
'cause each time you make me feel it
You know i can't fake it
Looks like i'm going down girl
Maybe it's time
For me to go
I don't want to hurt
No more
Sinking into you
