You say that you're leaving
That your hands are only dust
And the boy loves you
Oh, he loves you so much

Will you trust me
Like you did when we were young?
When we were young

You say that you're wilting
But I don't see it at all
You're a thousand things
You can fly with one wing

Who will brace me
From my painful, sudden fall
When we were young
I never had to worry
I never even cared
'Cause something always came my way
When we were young
I never was repeating
The sentiment again and again
Oh, something's gotta come my way

Oh, it won't be easy
As you reach your final end
When our days are spent
And I watch you transcend

Will you watch me
With our loved ones in the sky
When we were young
I never had to worry
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
I never had to worry
I never even cared
'Cause something always came my way
When we were young
I never had to carry
Those fears I have today
You take me when I close my eyes

Hermm...Not completely sure, but this is what I'm hearing...

Who will brace me From a painful, sudden fall ... When we were young I never was repeating The sentiment again and again Oh, something's gotta come my way ... Will you watch me With our loved ones in the sky When we were young I never had to worry ... When we were young I never had to carry Those fears I have today You take me when I close my eyes

These are the only parts where I hear different things. Who knows what I'm really hearing though. I tend to get lost in the beauty. Thanks for posting :)

Can anyone help with the meaning of the song? I know it's probably obvious, but I'm horrible at interpretations!

I'm sensing it's referring to a death of some sort, or maybe getting older (and how our mortality is so much more profound in our minds as we age). However, the first part trips me up with the reference of the "boy" who "loves you so much" and the "will you trust me." One section looks like it's offering reassurance while another seems to ask for reassurance.

Point being, I'd love to hear any other more coherent interpretations!

Now, I could totally be wrong, which I most likely am. But what I got out of this was she doesn't want her best friend to leave her alone. Not a guy lover best friend, but the best friend that she's had since she was young.

You say that you're leaving That your hands are only dust And the boy loves you Oh, he loves you so much

^Her best friend is in love, and is going to leave to be with him, while the narrator of this song is left alone.

Again, I may be wrong.. :)

I think this may be a reflection about her sister's first marriage. As you know, Stacy was the youngest Dupree sister in Eisley. She was the primary song writer for many of the bands songs, starting at age 10. Around 2006 the band was loosing their initial spark, and mystery. Being young, they posted much of their personal lives on the internet in blogs, twitter and through Eisley's website.

If you interpret the song to be about Stacy loosing a best friend- I think it would refer to Sherri. Sherri entered into a marriage very suddenly, which ended in divorce quite quickly afterwards. I think this is song is about that situation. Where she worries about her older sister, when they get older and realize the consequences of having their personal lives all over the internet.

    My Interpretation

I am really bad with song interpretations, but I just listened to the song again after several months and I had a pretty clear interpretation:

To me it is about an unavoidable death, perhaps of a love one. Personally, they went through several periods of illness with their mother that was spoken of a while ago, so maybe it's a reflection of that.

Talking in general: When we are young, we usually don't have worries about older parents/family members passing away, getting sick. When one starts to get older, that happens more and more.

The "You say that you're leaving....hands are only dust." and "You say that you're wilting, but I don't see it at all" lines --- I know my parents are now commenting on how "old" they are and are talking about wills, etc., but to me, they are still my parents who protect me and can do anything.

The boy loves you may refer to her father loving her mother. Lyrically, she seems to use "boy," "girl," "honey," etc despite age.

The last part is of course, talking about the passing of a love one...something we unfortunately all have to go through.

I don't know...I remember when I first heard the song, I thought it was somewhat about a relationship, but now it makes sense that it is about that period where her mother was really sick and can relate to that situation in general. With this new interpretation, it makes me appreciate the song even more.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
