The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
I say, "No!", but you say, "Yay!"
As you drape your leg across my waist
And evil eyes connect with mine
Why must I always resign?
My feet can't let me walk away
As you remind me this, I go insane
I know that I can take it
Don't count on me to fake it
My stifled laugh as you begin to quicken
Taunting grin, try turning to religion
Flicker forth and to and fro
When will you let me go?
Holding me down
And I hope you never ever let me go
I realize that it's not fair
As I beg, "Please, please, oh god, not there."
And you pay no mind to the widening
Of just what my eyes are seeing
And when I feel I can take no more
You bring me up from two to four
And god, it's esoteric
I want to be hysteric
Holding me down
And I hope you never ever let me go
As you drape your leg across my waist
And evil eyes connect with mine
Why must I always resign?
My feet can't let me walk away
As you remind me this, I go insane
I know that I can take it
Don't count on me to fake it
My stifled laugh as you begin to quicken
Taunting grin, try turning to religion
Flicker forth and to and fro
When will you let me go?
Holding me down
And I hope you never ever let me go
I realize that it's not fair
As I beg, "Please, please, oh god, not there."
And you pay no mind to the widening
Of just what my eyes are seeing
And when I feel I can take no more
You bring me up from two to four
And god, it's esoteric
I want to be hysteric
Holding me down
And I hope you never ever let me go
