I'm the king of my own land.
Facing tempests of dust, I'll fight until the end creatures of my dreams raise up and dance with me!
Now and forever, I'm your KING!!!
Facing tempests of dust, I'll fight until the end creatures of my dreams raise up and dance with me!
Now and forever, I'm your KING!!!

Very beautiful and thoughtful song!
Given the song title, as well as the lyrics I always imagine it to be describing the end of an era. I suppose it could be from the perspective of a species, a civilization or even a single person. Either way, it makes me think of proud determination to keep going/fighting/living to the very end, despite knowing that the end is inevitably coming.
This is balanced by the thought that anyones existence is, always has been and always will be etched into the history of eternity ("Now and Forever)
Certainly a great end song for an album!
One of the best songs I've come across!
I'm still trying to figure out whether this song makes me happy or sad. Probably both. I feel like the song is acknowledging the end of something (death/breakup/whatever), but is celebrating that at the same time. Celebrating life, even through death, if you will. Cracker of a song.
Its god - the universe itself.
The universe does not know what or how it is, but it is the king of its own land (i.e everything) regardless, and fights till the end to understand itself. It has witnessed the formation and destruction of countless galaxies and perhaps even other universes (Tempests of dust) over eternity.
We (and the infinite number of beings in the universe) are the creatures of its dreams, which it has raised up from the dust, in order to try and understand itself. Now and forever it is our king.
amazing song. the lyrics always remind me of the poem "Ozymandias" by Shelley. Where Shelley's poem discusses finding the remains of the kings empire, this song could be from the king's perspective during his rule. Kind of a tenuous link but it's just my interpretation!
In my opinion, this song means, that we are kings of our own imagination: "I am the king of my own land" The land might be the imagination, because you are the only one who can rule your own one. "Facing tempests of dust, I'll fight until the end" Tempests of dust might be real world, our thoughts and problems that we try to solve and we forget to dream,so problems (dust) cover our mind and imagination (land) and we cant imagine anything but them.. "I´ll fight till the end" means that if we lose our imagination/dreams-in fact we lose our "perfect" fictional lives(hopes) where we are all free. "Creatures of my dreams raise up and dance with me" We imagine our own creatures in our fictional world, they might reflect us and our problems or situation-for example- fictional world is perfect-we are happy and we are dancing, and those creatures are happy and dancing with us. Also creatures might be the ones we fear of,or people we loved and they passed away and in this fictional world rules peace and we´re dancing together. "Now and forever,I am your king" Once again,we are the only ones that can rule our imagination !
(Sorry for my english)

Reminds me of "Where the Wild Things Are"
I was just about to say this :)

This song depict the end of a great and glorious episode of a person's life. This person is faithful to this epoch, but this epoch is now turning into dusk.
It is about recognizing that you control your own destiny.
"Creatures of my dreams, raise up and dance with me"
The objects of my dreams in life and deepest hopes,
"now and forever, I'm your king"
I am in command of whether or not you (my dreams) come to fruition.
This song makes me feel so deeply hopeful and linked to myself.
It's an ode to the power of imagination and how we have to fight through life to keep it ours. Everything we do, everything we are, everything that we spread out to the world, now and forever, is first born in our thoughts. It's our land, our kingdom.
The world is like a white screen on which we project our thoughts, a land on which we give life to our own creatures, on which we walk through, despite the tempests of dust that may occurs.
p.s: another song that dig me a lot and like to associate to this one is Tornado from Jonsi. Specially the Go Quiet edit.
p.s2: hope my english's not too bad.
@manci You're kidding me. Your written English is far better and more comprehensible that most of what native English speakers write in internet comments.

Not so much an outro, ending, but a new beginning. Notice the tone as the song progresses. The pitch rising, the layers multiplying. The symphony ascends. It’s the release of old inhibitions and worries. “I’m your king”. That’s not the speaking announcing themself as ruler of all, but the ruler of themself.
I could be and more than likely are a million miles away from the real meaning, but that’s the meaning to me. M83 helped through a lot of dark times in my life. Being someone who obsesses over the impact of what sound does to a person, M83 hit the perfect spot of elation, telling story whilst dealing emotion purely with sound composure.
I guess I’ve come to this idea of the meaning as it feels relatable. A rise away from past worries, moving forward with bliss ignorance, letting the world rage around you.
Fantastic song then, fantastic song now. Hopefully will be forever more
@GuitarOnMtv love the way you put it and it’s the beauty of music. I’m a basketball coach and all I’ve wanted is to win it all. With that obsession in mind, I interpret the lyrics related to basketball. Great song.
