Not so much an outro, ending, but a new beginning. Notice the tone as the song progresses. The pitch rising, the layers multiplying. The symphony ascends. It’s the release of old inhibitions and worries. “I’m your king”. That’s not the speaking announcing themself as ruler of all, but the ruler of themself. I could be and more than likely are a million miles away from the real meaning, but that’s the meaning to me. M83 helped through a lot of dark times in my life. Being someone who obsesses over the impact of what sound does to a person, M83 hit the perfect spot of elation, telling story whilst dealing emotion purely with sound composure. I guess I’ve come to this idea of the meaning as it feels relatable. A rise away from past worries, moving forward with bliss ignorance, letting the world rage around you. Fantastic song then, fantastic song now. Hopefully will be forever more |
