She never feels good 'cause she can't sleep
And when people can't sleep it makes it hard for you to eat
Early in the morning with no time to take a shower
She leaves a bed that would be empty except me
Wrapped up in a feeling that I never want to lose
After I got caught up she brought up the big news
But she don't want to see my face when I'm sad
Already got enough on her plate from her dad
To worry about me means forget about yourself
And that has brought about a sudden decline in her health
I'm begging for her kisses while I offer up my help
But what she needs is way out of my reach and I can tell

I'm way too deep in my obsession with a face
That my mind can't erase
Memories I can't escape
I hold her too tightly and I don't want to replace
The feeling that electrifies flesh time and space

But I think you should...

Get some rest so tomorrow will be easy
I'll hold you so close cause in the morning when you leave me
I feel alone like a child on the blacktop
Counting every step from my door to the bus stop
But it's never like that when I feel you next to me
But my love is like a bad bruise
So much proof from the trails that my fingers leave
I should have known that it was all because of me

She doesn't dream much 'cause she needs help
Before she goes to bed she takes a jar off of the shelf
Two lights and then one true blue pill
To take away the buzzing she always seems to feel
Within the worries that come with a little sister
Hides from the pride when 'cause she cried when she missed her
And you may be the only one who understands
So you should take a little break to hold her hand
But it only gets worse watching the hurt
When you want to give her what she deserves

Don't worry about me I'm fast asleep
Lying under Autumn leaves that are falling from Glen Tree
When the hours come when I will be awake
We'll jump into the feelings that have drowned us like a lake
We struggle to the surface but I fear that I'm too late
Another hand reached yours pulling you up into your fate

But I think you should...

Get some rest so tomorrow will be easy
I'll hold you so close cause in the morning when you leave me
I feel alone like a child on the blacktop
Counting every step from my door to the bus stop
But it's never like that when I feel you next to me
But my love is like a bad bruise
So much proof from the trails that my fingers leave
I should have known that it was all because of me

It's summertime and the living is easy
I tell you how I feel about you but you don't believe me
Your daddy's rich and your mama's good lookin'
You and number two already got some new cookin'
(repeat)

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
