Somebody make a move
Somebody make a move
Somebody

Test my reality
Check if there's a weak spot
Clingin' to insanity
Hopes the world will ease up

Try to make it look like it's all somehow getting better
'Cause I know how to play it pretty good against the measure
Everyone started out a little insane
But we learn pretty quick how to fake it for the game
But some of you never learned to drop the act
So under that skin of yours: a heart attack

'Cause everybody's so scared
We don't wanna go there
We don't wanna make a move
We got got all our lives to lose
Screaming in the dark while we just play our part
I'll play right along
Like I don't know what's going on

Somebody make a move
Somebody make a move
Please somebody make a move
We all know
We all know what's going on

And if I had the answers I'd have written them out
So I could tell you what to do and what this thing is about
But all I've ever learned comes second-hand
And I dare not preach what I don't understand

You and I; we share the same disease
Cover up; compromise what we grieve
I've let more than my share of revivals die
This isn't pretty but it's who I am tonight

'Cause everybody's so scared
We don't wanna go there
We don't wanna make a move
We got got all our lives to lose
Screaming in the dark while we just play our part
I'll play right along
Like I don't know what's going on

Somebody make a move
Somebody make a move
Please somebody make a move
We all know
We all know what's going on

Pointing my fingers the problems still linger
They keep getting bigger and I hold the trigger
Playing with fire I live like a liar
Please somebody make a move

Somebody make a move (I'm pointing my fingers)
Somebody make a move (The problems still linger)
Somebody make a move (I'm pointing my fingers)
Somebody
Somebody make a move

'Cause everybody's so scared
We don't wanna go there
We don't wanna make a move
Screaming in the dark while we just play our part
I'll play right along

'Cause everybody's so scared
We don't wanna go there
We don't wanna make a move
We got got all our lives to lose
Screaming in the dark while we just play our part
I'll play right along
Like I don't know what's going on

Somebody make a move
Somebody make a move
Please somebody make a move
We all know
We all know what's going on
Somebody make a move
Somebody make a move
Please somebody make a move
We all know
We all know what's going on

    My Interpretation

It's obvious to me the band is railing at PEOPLE in general because the 1% own 95% of everything, and the 99% are too afraid to stand up as a group and say NO MORE. On top of that, the comfort levels of even the poor (bottom 40%) is acceptable to the point they don't want to rock the boat.

Everyone is so scared, they don't want to go there (FBI, CIA, IRS, DHS, FCC, TSA, NSA, all alphebet soup policing agencies of government....as well as corporations and their grubby hands in everything). We all got our lives to lose (everything we take for granted is only there because since we DON'T stand up TPTB haven't decided its time to take it away yet).

I'm pointing my fingers, the problems still linger (Example: Media points fingers, people point fingers, lay blame; nobody accepts responsibility...so it never gets better, and only gets worse).

I know it's easy to look at any song and make it political, but Ariel is quoted as saying "We're not trying to save the church, we're trying to save the world." Alot of bands and artists are doing just that...it's just that few of them get huge sponsoring because their lyrics and their goals do not coincide with corporate or powerful interests.

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
