I'm standing on the edge of returning or just running away
I'm letting myself look the other way
And the hardest part in all of this is, I don't think I know my way back home
Is it worth the journey, or do I let my heart settle here?

How cold have I become?
I didn't want to
Lose You by what I'd done
Caught in the grey

I don't wanna look You in the eyes, You might call me away
I don't wanna give You the chance to make me stay
And the hardest part in all of this is, I know my way back, I don't want to go
And let You see all that has become of me

I should've known, I should've known
I didn't have a chance

CHORUS:
How cold have I become?
I didn't want to
Lose You by what I'd done
Caught in the grey
It burns for a moment
But, but then it numbs you
Takes you and leaves you just
Caught in the grey

(You tell me)
"In your deepest pain, in your weakest hour
In your darkest night, you are lovely" (You tell me)
"In your deepest pain, in your weakest hour
In your darkest night, you are lovely"

CHORUS

"In your deepest pain, in your weakest hour
In your darkest night, you are lovely
In your deepest pain, in your weakest hour
In your darkest night, you are lovely"

I'm standing on the edge of returning or just running away

General CommentI think “the grey” is depression. She loves him but is shameful for being depressed.

My OpinionVery Evanescence-ish but really beautiful at the same time. I never heard the original version of this song so my interpretation is for the album version.

I'm not too clear on some points but the overall thing as I see it is about being in between of something. "Caught in the grey" is the line that tells us this. "The grey" is the part when everything is in a mist and you can barely say what is what.

General CommentI think in this lyrics the person is taking about themselves as if they are a pitiful person that is too in love with the self pity and pain to wake up and take help. She knows she is hurting others by not taking the help and remaining a self pitist which is why she doesn't want the other person what she has become it kills her that she is hurting someone else with her pain and self pity but she is "caught in the grey" because she is torn between saving herself or staying in love with her self pity and watch the person she loves to death die more as she dies within herself pity. She wants to run away because she doesn't want anyone else to suffer because of her and feels even more guilty for people loving her and putting others in that situation to suffer.
