The Birds Part 1 Lyrics

Can't you see?
It won't mean a thing to me
I've been doing this too long
Baby girl, I've felt it all
So watch out
If you try to play your luck
Ain't nobody gonna care enough
To catch you fall

[Chorus]
So don't you fall in love
Don't make me make you fall in love
Don't make me make you fall in love with a nigga like me
Nobody needs to fall in love
I swear I'm just a bird
Girl, I'm just another bird
Don't make me make you fall in love with a nigga like me
Like me

Girl, you tried
You tried to warn me
But baby, I'm warning you
Girl, I'll show you
This is no game
You'll be falling to the point of no return
No return

[Chorus]

I know you're rolling hard with it, don't lie
I know it's got a hold of you
I know you're rolling with it, baby don't you lie
Baby

I know you're rolling hard with it, don't lie
I know it's got a hold of you
I know you're rolling with it, baby don't you lie
Baby

So don't you fall in love
Don't make me make you fall in love
Don't make me make you fall in love with a nigga like me
Like me
'Cause girl I'm just a bird
I'm just another bird
Don't make me make you fall in love with a nigga like me
Like me

well i can't really figure it out either but my first thoughts are

  1. bird: he'll 'fly away'/ leave her one day, you can't keep him, he won't be faithful (kinda reminded me of the hawking imagery Shakespeare's character Othello uses to describe Desdemona's adultery...lol sorry) you see, this imagery is nothing new: birds are free, wild and they never settle down.

2.he seems to like her and he's afraid that he might like her even more so he's warning her "don't make me make you fall in love" because guys that hook up with many girls start to gain this "one personality" they always adopt when they're with them. This means being very aloof and impersonal, playing games etc. But he just might start to care about her which means that he'd change his behaviour towards her. he might become much more personal, caring and passionate (or playing even crazier games?XD) which involves the risk of falling for him. But well he insists that this "won't mean a thing to [him]". he's "bird" who will only break her heart in the end.

the making you fall in love part is about taking ecstasy. "I know you're rolling hard with it don't lie I know it's got a hold of you I know you're rolling with it" rolling referring to dropping pills. i could be wrong but he sings about thizz in so many of his songs. the birds pt. 2 saying "let me fall out of love before you fuck her" talking about coming down (can't just fall out of love like that, specially not to let someone else have a turn), also "she gave me all her pills now her back hurts".. you guys are thinking about this in terms of lovey-dovey shit but alot of the weeknd's music is pretty dark with a lot of references to taking drugs and one-night stands.

for sure, there's very few of his songs that are about love or relationships. this one i think refers to his experience with drugs and love and he feels like he's gone to the heights and depths with both. the girl he is talking to is likely greener in both areas and is getting carried away, having her mind blown and only seeing the heights. she is leaping into his world and he is trying to warn her of its darker side.

my thoughts anyway.

or rather JUST about love or relationships. there's love often as an undertone but the songs always run astray.

or he might just be falling for her too...but just warning her about his darker side (not to fall for a guy like him)

The Weeknd's themes seem to progress linearly throughout his three mixtapes (at least in my opinion).

House of Balloons: Themes of doing drugs as a sort of new thing to be introducing his girl to at the beginning, by the middle he's into the lifestyle that comes with taking a lot of drugs recreationally (clubs, strip clubs, the like), at the end he finds out "his girl" has been cheating on him and uses that to justify his own promiscuity (and/or it is the other half of the force it took to "break him"). The line in "The Knowing" where he says "The more of you, the merrier" is foreshadowing of how he will be in the future.

Thursday is a follow up of this narrative where he meets a girl he likes and wants to see regularly but doesn't want the pain he felt last time he had someone like this so they agree to meet on Thursdays. However at the middle of the mixtape (aka THIS SONG), he suspects that she is beginning to fall for him and is transforming her image of him in her life. In this song, he reminds her of his tendencies to pick up and move on to the next one, as a bird would do.

Perhaps he is developing feelings as well and the emotion heard in The Birds Part 2 is a result of him feeling that pain again because he has to break her heart (and possibly his own as well).

New song but I have no idea what this is really about it kinda confuses me. "No one needs to fall in love" but "Don't make me make you fall in love." ? I get the bird part. Kinda like that bread is for the birds, which i think he's kinda tryin to say hes nothing special i.e "another bird" i think he's trying to say he could make her fall in love without trying "since hes done it so long". Maybe dont cross him or hell make you fall in love with him? hahah wtf idk. you cant even make people fall in love with you

okay so let's say they we're having casual sex with each other...from that FWB shit lol this is what they get ..FEELINGS for each other...so he is warning her like she was warning him that they shouldn't fall for each other...he won't settle down "he is a bird". And saying "don't make me make you fall in love" is just saying that he knows she is for him and if she continues he might let it but doesn't want her to fall for someone like him ...get it?....I'm speaking out how i feel because I'm experiencing this right now...

He's warning this girl not to fall in love with him. He's just a bird & birds never stay in one place for long. This whole song is a warning for girls not to fall in love with him, but sadly in part 2....
