The Weeknd's themes seem to progress linearly throughout his three mixtapes (at least in my opinion).
House of Balloons: Themes of doing drugs as a sort of new thing to be introducing his girl to at the beginning, by the middle he's into the lifestyle that comes with taking a lot of drugs recreationally (clubs, strip clubs, the like), at the end he finds out "his girl" has been cheating on him and uses that to justify his own promiscuity (and/or it is the other half of the force it took to "break him"). The line in "The Knowing" where he says "The more of you, the merrier" is foreshadowing of how he will be in the future.
Thursday is a follow up of this narrative where he meets a girl he likes and wants to see regularly but doesn't want the pain he felt last time he had someone like this so they agree to meet on Thursdays. However at the middle of the mixtape (aka THIS SONG), he suspects that she is beginning to fall for him and is transforming her image of him in her life. In this song, he reminds her of his tendencies to pick up and move on to the next one, as a bird would do.
Perhaps he is developing feelings as well and the emotion heard in The Birds Part 2 is a result of him feeling that pain again because he has to break her heart (and possibly his own as well).
