High for This Lyrics

You don't know what's in store
But you know what you're here for
Close your eyes
Lay yourself beside me
Hold tight for this ride
We don't need no protection
Come alone
We don't need attention

Open your hand
Take a glass
Don't be scared
I'm right here
Even though you don't roll
Trust me girl
You wanna be high for this

Take it off
You want it off
'Cause I know what you're feeling
It's okay girl I feel it too
Let it beat baby breathe
I swear I'm right here
We'll be good I promise
We'll be so good

Open your hand
Take a glass
Don't be scared
I'm right here
Even though you don't roll
Trust me girl
You wanna be high for this
You wanna be high for this

You wanna be high for this
You wanna be high for this
You wanna be high for this

These lyrics are terrifying. It leaves so much up to the mind. Someone about to have sex, but it's certainly more than they are used to, and the song's narrator is coaxing them into it line-by-line. "You want to be high for this" -- the pure hedonism of the song is so intense that it's almost scary just how everything else is thrown out the window.

Exactly my thoughts.

definitely about having sex while rolling... which is amazing, by the way

I do understand how most people could interpret his song as scary and terrifying, a "bad guy" coaxing a nice, trusting girl to surrender her body to him, but that is not what I felt when I first heard it. It comforted me - I have been in a situation where I called up my boyfriend that I was supposed to be broken up with, and we went dancing, alone, just the two of us at a random club. We held each other's bodies tight, and we both didn't know exactly what was in store, but we both knew what we were there for. We both knew that in our right, "sober" minds, we would not, and should not be close to each other. We knew we had to be "high" for this. (difference was that we were drunk not high) We ended up at his place, in his oh-so-familiar bed, and it was so lustful and carefree, just giving in to something we knew we shouldn't be doing. It was so easy, we just knew what the other was thinking and it was so beautiful. In the end, it ultimately caused more pain, dragging the end of our relationship out, but it was just something we needed to do, but we both had to be "high" for it. This song comforted me, and reminded me that everyone has moments of weakness.

It's interesting how music has different effects on people based on their experiences. Fascinating input!

This song is terrifying in the most awesome way possible. And I think "Don't be scared. I'm right here." Is the most terrifying line on the entire album. Seriously, the narrator just seems like a bad, bad dude. Fantastic track.

Like many others have said, this song is definitely about having sex while on MDMA or ecstasy.

"even though, you don't roll ..." -> the term "rolling" is used when someone is high on ecstasy

"open your hand, take a glass" -> the girl needs to open her hand to take the capsule from him and needs a glass of water to swallow it or the powder

Take a glass could mean one of two things. It could refer to the ecstasy being of high purity or it could simply mean a glass of alcohol. I think it probably means drinking alcohol based on the context of the song. A little liquid courage helps to give into temptation. Plus alcohol and E mix well.

It also could just be a glass of water to wash it down.
