My life stands here where its found
In a land in which my heart is bound.
Lay my hands down in the ground,
And dig my seed out from this mound,

Truth is that I've always known,
But I've held my breath
To tell all 'til now..
'Til now..

Now I'm gonna go
Now I'm gonna leave
Now I'm gonna be complete

Now I'm gonna go
Now I'm gonna leave
Now I'm gonna be happy

'Cause I can't breathe without you,
I can't be without you,
I can't breathe without you,
I can't be without you,
I can't breathe without you,
I can't be without you,
I can't breathe without you,
I just need you now..

My compass, it points south
To a land where all my soul is bound,
A wind blows words out from its mouth,
To catch my sail and float me down

Now I'm gonna go
Now I'm gonna leave
Now I'm gonna be complete

Now I'm gonna go
Now I'm gonna leave
Now I'm gonna be happy

'Cause I can't breathe without you,
I can't be without you,
I can't breathe without you,
I can't be without you,
I can't breathe without you,
I can't be without you,
I can't breathe without you,
I just need you now..

'Cause I can't breathe without you,
I can't be without you,
I just need you now..

    Song Meaning

Initially, I thought this song was about a breakup, or loss of a loved one. I still do, but now I also think this song is about suicide.

Now I'm gonna go Now I'm gonna leave Now I'm gonna be complete

Now I'm gonna go Now I'm gonna leave Now I'm gonna be happy

This sounds to me like a breakup - like he's been miserable in this relationship, and has known it for awhile, but is finally getting out. But this is followed by:

I can't breathe without you, I can't be without you, I can't breathe without you, I just need you now..

And this is the opposite - he doesn't want to leave, and can't breathe without the other person around.

So I think its about suicide - the love of his life has died, and he can't function without her - so he's decided to leave - kill himself - so he can be complete again and happy - with his lost love in the afterlife.

I love this song, and it manages to make me sad every time I hear it. The chorus strikes me particularly hard at the moment, because my mom was really sick, and nearly died, and is still fighting cancer - and every time I think about losing her, I get this tightness in my chest, and I can't breathe. I can only imagine how much worse it would be to lose the great love of your life.

And I'd never quite gotten what the verses are referring to, but think I just did, at least somewhat.

My life stands here where its found In a land in which my heart is bound. Lay my hands down in the ground, And dig my seed out from this mound,

My compass, it points south To a land where all my soul is bound, A wind blows words out from its mouth, To catch my sail and float me down

He's stuck here, in life, where is heart (his body) is. He yearns to go "south" (where his compass points - towards his love, not north as a compass should) - to where his soul is bound - to her. He's basically saying, I'm stuck here in this life, while you've died, leaving me and my heart behind - and when I die, I'll leave my heart behind, but my soul will go on, and find her. And be happy - the idea of a wind blowing to "float" him down implies that when he arrives things will be calm and gentle.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Head > Heels

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
