Don't Play This Song (feat. Mary J. Blige) Lyrics

Wanna know what it sounds like when I'm not on drugs?
Please, please don't play this song
R-r-r-r-right r-right r-right, right, right
Tryin to get my mind, my mind, my mind right, right
People think they're really being helpful by telling me, "Please be careful"
Yeah, right
R-r-r-r-right r-right rightr, right
Please, please don't play this song

Yo, pain, hurt, sadness, and loneliness
Balled all that shit right up
Tossed it away to the bottomless pit
The part of my mind that slips
The part of my mind so sick
I don't even like to take that trip unless I'm sloppy drunk
I prayed for my mom
Not teaching her son that never gave a fuck about a Scantron
All I wanted was to be a human being
Show the world some new colors and scenes
Imagine all types of beautiful scenery

I remember when I first had trees
Smoked out a black and mild, so dumb of me
Now I'm grape cigarillo man
Any young black kid guaranteed fan
Holding down all my pride on the humble
And I'm treating all my girls like models
Reckless so young and my-my mom's calling
Think I should hit decline
I'm numb-faced while I'm thinking about suicide

Wanna know what it sounds like when I'm not on drugs?
Please, please don't play this song
R-r-r-r-right r-right r-right, right, right
Tryin to get my mind, my mind, my mind right, right
People think they're really being helpful by telling me, "Please be careful"
Yeah, right
R-r-r-r-right r-right right, right
Please, please don't play this song

Hey, black Robin Hood
Riding high just like we should
You know the saying ain't no delayin'
Gotta gets the gettin' while the getting's good
Yeah, demented my brain was forced to transform
Wise up I'm checking the gate on home hotels and minimum wage
The broad's tell it "Cudder's lame, wearing a kilt he must be gay"
Let's keep it trill, fuck being discreet
But some girls tweet how they miss my meat
Yeah Cudders
HBO, that Vitamin Water
That's money to blow
Get your money for blow
Don't take no shit you can blame my Ma
I'm in the maze, I'm in a daze, I'm losing it
I'm locking in my rocket ship
I'll be a blip in your radar, bitch
Feels like things can be covered until the day I remind myself of her

Cover art for Don't Play This Song (feat. Mary J. Blige) lyrics by Kid Cudi

I think hes talking about how his drug use doesnt really affect his life because hes been doing it for years and things only get better for him despite his habbits. Hes saying how everybody is tellin him to quit with the drugs but he doesnt care because he has a lot going for him anyway and if u dont like it dont play the song lol

the whole album is about his drug addictions and the dark parts of his life. he isn't proud of it and if you see what has happened recently in his life and what the whole story of the MOTM2 album is speaking of is overcoming his addictions.

Definitely agree with shineondono. The song's about how he only feels good when he's high. Early in the song he thinks that just shows how drugs are great because they make him feel good. But then he realizes the only reason he feels like shit when he's sober is because of his addiction.

He says "Please don't play this song" because he doesn't want you to see his depressed side. He wants to put on a false front and let everyone think he's happy.

It's not a song against drugs. It's just saying you gotta use in moderation....

"Wanna know what it sounds like when I'm not on drugs? Please, please don't play this song" uh, he's saying Please don't play this song because it's in response to the previous question. As in, if you're looking to hear what I sound like when I'm not high, don't listen because this song is the essence of songs I write when I'm high.

i think hes talking about how hes only happy when hes high

"pain, hurt, sadness, and loneliness Balled all that shit right up Tossed it away to the bottomless pit The part of my mind that slips The part of my mind so sick"

he tosses the "ball" of hurt and feels normal when hes sooper dooper high but he doesnt like being high "the part of my mind that slips, the part of my mind so sick"

...idk

wow this is a great song.

This is Cudi's deepest song, in my opinion. One of his many deep lines include - "Reckless so young and my-my mom's calling Think I should hit decline I'm numb-faced while I'm thinking about suicide" Imagine being in his position; rags to riches at such a young age, fucked up on drugs...declining his mother's phone call while he contemplates taking his own life. To be hoenst, I don't think you could write this kind of deep shit unless you've experienced it...
