1950 Lyrics

And you might think the end is on the brink.
And now I believe in something I believe, or not.
And all I do is sit and pity you
When I should be laughing at the things I haven't got.

Now I don't know how I'm a chameleon now.

You hate me? Take me.
All I wanted was to come back down.
You need me? Keep me.
Leave me haunted by what I burned down.

And all this time, I leave you here behind.
And now I believe in something I believe, or not.
And all I do is sit and pity you
When I should be laughing at the things I haven't got.

Now I don't know how I'm a chameleon now.

You hate me? Take me.
All I wanted was to come back down.
You need me? Keep me.
Keep me haunted by what I burned down.

You hate me? Take me.
All I wanted was to come back down.
You need me? Keep me.
Keep me haunted by what I burned down.

What could I do?

What more could I do?
What more could I do?
What more could I do?
What more could I do?
What more could I do?
What more could I do
To you to never lose the things I haven't yet?

I hope I got all the lyrics right. The only version out there is from a demo tape from 1998, so the quality is awful.

they all seem rite, even down to that last line or they at least sound like what I hear when I listen to this song either way, great job ^_^ thank you for posting these lyrics

You definitely have most of the lyrics right. I was always hesitant on adding this song when I first heard it because I could never make out the line that you have the chameleon stuff for (which I still don't believe is right). Here's what I came up with back when I was trying to figure them out. It's mostly the same other than the chorus:

"And you might think the end is on the brink. And now I believe in something I believe in I. And all I do is sit and pity you-- when I shouldn't be laughing at the things...

Actually, I'm listening to it right now and at the end of the first verse, it sounds like "Now I don't know how. I'm not that ???," but the second time it comes up, the "I'm not that" doesn't sound quite the same.

I love this song because it's so untouched. It's a real, unadulterated Breaking Benjamin song. Whenever it comes on, I just smile. I can't help it.

To me, it's about having walked away from something but still being able to come back to it. In the mix, there's anger "you hate me? take me." and confusion "you need me? keep me. leave me haunted by what i burned down." in that one line, he says "keep me," followed by "leave me," showing that things may keep going back and forth. I feel like everyone likes to equate BB's songs to drugs or relationships, but I feel like this one could have been just based on a friendship that was falling apart. He just didn't care enough to repair it, which lead to a chaotic, semi-destroyed friendship And that's the point where the song is written. He ends by saying he hasn't ruined it all yet, knows he very well could, but also doesn't know what to do in general, with the line "what more could I do, to you, to lose the things that I haven't yet?"

I just love this song so much. It's interesting. It's pure.

But that's just my two cents ^_^
