Secret Lyrics
I woke up as I waited
Bleeding slow
There was no way to make all this blow over so
I started writing the ending
I said too much
And you just kept on pretending
For both of us
I could never speak
In a way you wanted to hear
I couldn't convey
We were just sinking too fast to say
The two of us, whispering hope away
All the days that I've counted
You'll never know
All that I promised you doubted
I told you so
Forget the words that were spoken
And thoughts erased
Let's burn the path that was chosen
Without a trace
Bleeding slow
There was no way to make all this blow over so
I started writing the ending
I said too much
And you just kept on pretending
For both of us
In a way you wanted to hear
I couldn't convey
We were just sinking too fast to say
The two of us, whispering hope away
You'll never know
All that I promised you doubted
I told you so
Forget the words that were spoken
And thoughts erased
Let's burn the path that was chosen
Without a trace

I woke up as I lay there Bleeding slow There was no way to make all this blow over So, I started writing the ending I said too much And you just kept on pretending For both of us
I could never speak in a way Came only to hear, I couldn't convey Oh we're just sinking too fast to say The two of us, whispering her away
All the days that I've counted You'll never know All that I promised you doubted I told you so Forget the words that were spoken And thought to waste Let's burn the path that was chosen Without a trace
I could never speak in a way Came only to hear, I couldn't convey Oh, we're just sinking too fast to say The two of us, whispering her away

these might be a little wrong but i think they're mostly right.
"we were just sinking too fast to SAVE"
A wonderful song that contains great meaning, definitely my favourite song out of the whole "Pins And Needles" album. I feel the lyrics tell a story of two lovers parting their ways now they've lost everything that they once had together. Their relationship is falling apart and one seems to be in a long denial about it at first. It sounds as if she was quiet about her own views, keeping her true feelings in 'secret'. While the other pushed them away and kept personal issues out of mind. The "I could never speak anyway. What you wanted to hear, I couldn't convey..." is where you get the main idea to this.
"I started writing the ending I said too much" - she knew from the very beginning that it wasn't going to workout, but she didn't pressure her partner on the doubts.
"We were just sinking too fast to save" - not even trying to fix these problems will be able to make their relationship work.
"All the days that I've counted You'll never know" - as if she has been waiting for the moment where everything they had finally breaks and how long they'll last in the increasing decay. But she still hides her feelings.
"Let's burn the path that was chosen Without a trace" - suggesting they planned a life together, but now it isn't going anywhere. It's broken.
When you're in a situation like this, it can be distressing and heart-rending. I can really relate to its saying.
@Rinette Spot-on I think. The depth of the meaning is given by the chorus lines "I could never speak anyway What you wanted to hear I couldn't convey We were just sinking too fast to save The two of us Whispering hope away" which in simple terms means that them lovers didn't live up to their expectations between each other. Mutual distrust began to build but they couldn't realize until love was gone away. I know, I relate to it because that's what I'm going through right now. And it sucks.

I thinks it's about someone who doesn't think there good enough. "I could never speak anyway. What you whated to hear.. I couldn't convey" everytime they spoke to someone they loved they always felt like that were making them mad, or unhappy. They couldn't understand how to make them happy. "All that it promised you doubted." Sounds like, the person actually doesn't trust them. They doubt that they'll ever to keep there promise. They fill the others head with doubt. "Forget the words that were spoken and thought erased." They fought, and it caused them to become seperated for awhile. They regret not be able to say things when they were together. And it's about the regret.
