Hang With Me Lyrics

Will you tell me once again
How we're gonna be just friends
If you're for real and not pretend
Then I guess you can hang with me

When my patience's wearing thin
When I'm ready to give in
Will you pick me up again
Then I guess you can hang with me

And if you do me right
I'm gonna do right by you
And if you keep it tight
I'm gonna confide in you
I know what's on your mind
There will be time for that too
If you hang with me

Just don't fall recklessly headlessly in love with me
Cause it's gonna be
All heartbreak, blissfully painful and insanity
If we agree
You can hang with me

When you see me drift astray
Out of touch and out of place
Will you tell me to my face
Then I guess you can hang with me

And if you do me right
I'm gonna do right by you
And if you keep it tight
I'm gonna confide in you
I know what's on your mind
There will be time for that too
If you hang with me

Just don't fall recklessly headlessly in love with me
Cause it's gonna be
All heartbreak, blissfully painful and insanity
If we agree
You can hang with me

Will you tell me once again
How we're gonna be just friends
If you're for real and not pretend
Then I guess you can hang with me

And if you do me right
I'm gonna do right by you
And if you keep it tight
I'm gonna confide in you
I know what's on your mind
There will be time for that too
If you hang with me

Just don't fall recklessly headlessly in love with me
Cause it's gonna be
All heartbreak, blissfully painful and insanity
If we agree
You can hang with me

Just don't fall recklessly headlessly in love with me
Cause it's gonna be
All heartbreak, blissfully painful and insanity
If we agree we can do whatever
If you hang with me

Just don't fall recklessly headlessly in love with me
Cause it's gonna be
All heartbreak, blissfully painful and insanity
If we agree
You can hang with me

I get the literal interpretations but I also sense some kind of bitter sarcasm going on.

I think it's kind of like a role reversal or something...instead of getting her heart broken by this person, she's juxtaposing their positions by saying "Just don't fall...". I think she's heard this so many times before that she's imagining saying it to someone else for a change.

Is that totally out of left field?

For me, I hear the wistfulness in it. Like she really does like him, and she wants to love him, but she can't. She's resigned to the fact that they have to be friends because something is stopping it.

Maybe one of them already has someone, maybe they both do, but she likes him a whole lot. If they were to end up falling in love it would end up terribly. So she's content with being just friends, just having him confide in her and trust her.

@ajklopotoski Hm, I somehow Imagine that Robyn could have written the lyric, but it is said that it is covered, I don`t know. She liked the song much, could the lyric well, and covered it, perhaps.

Anyway, I remember vaguely that I was with Robyn at a tour in US, when that text and lyric emerged. The tour was perhaps taken place between 1999/2001 and 2010, sometime.

I "hanged" with her at that time, during her tour, and such.

It is almost like that she, Robyn, made or emerged the lyric, as a reply to me, that literally hanged...

Mmh...here's my take on this. I think it's about a girl who meets a guy that she likes but doesn't feel like she is emotionally stable yet or just not ready in general for a serious thing. Obviously not wanting to just be friends but taking it slow at the same time.

"Will you tell me once again, How we're gonna be just friends?"

If he's serious about taking the chance with her then she'll let him in little by little.

"If you're real and not pretend, Then I guess you can hang with me"

And if he can wait for her until she's ready to be his totally she'll let him have her.

"When my patience wearing thin, When I'm ready to give in. Will you pick me up again? Then I guess you can hang with me"

If he proves himself worthy then it won't go ignored. She knows he's into her and wants her but there's time for everything so just for now, let it be and they'll see how things go.

"And if you do me right, I'm gonna do right by you, and if you keep it tight, I'm gonna confide in you, I know what's on your mind there will be time for that too, If you hang with me"

But what she doesn't want is things to go too fast and ruin what they have. Don't fall too fast because it could turn into a disaster.

So in shorter terms, be patient with her, give her time and space. Don't fall for her too fast because it could really ruin it and doing all that could turn out to be a good thing.

My Interpretation

The lyrics express compatibility between to potential lovers. It obviously goes much further than friendship; one can pick that up with tone of the words combined with the hopeful, blissful tune.

Saying "Don't fall.. in love me" is redundant, as it's inevitable. And who cares? Even if chaos is imminent (and nothing's for sure), it's worth it to live for the now. With this person.

I'm going through the exactly this right now- and it's wonderful. :)

My Interpretation

I think it's pretty straight forward. It's about how she meets someone new and they want to be her friend and "hang" with her, and she's cool with it, but she's just warning them, "don't fall in love with me, because even if I fall in love with you too - we won't ever be together, and you'll just get your heartbroken...maybe I will too" I could be wrong, but I think it's pretty obvious. I've been in the position I believe she's in many times so I know how she "feels" with this. Really relate-able song for me, also love the beat, instrumental, vocals, everything.

My Interpretation

This song is about friends with benefits. This is about a girl who likes a guy, but he just wants sex. So she says okay, but don't fall in love with me because its going to break both our hearts in the end. She secretly wants to be with him, but he isn't sure if she is the one.

This is the exact situation that happened to me, and I identify with this song so much. You build a relationship with someone based solely on attraction and someone falls for the other and complicates it all. It becomes a relationship built on nothing, and both parties end up confused.

brb, gotta find out how it is Robyn always knows my heart so well.

She's amazing.

I think wants to be involved and have a casual relationship with the person, but she doesn't want it to get too serious since she's telling them to not fall in love with her.

Love this song!

This song is about guys being put into the friendzone. Any dude listening to this: DON'T TAKE HER ADVICE.

On hooking up: I know what's on your mind There will be time for that too If you hang with me

She's basically saying she wants a best friend, but there's NO guarantee she's putting out. This is exactly how you get friendzoned, dudes. Ya, there's a chance she might become your girlfriend but it's SMALL, on top of that, you're giving her all of the control.

Hang With Me, and maaaaybe I'll hook up with you. But probably not.

Song Meaning

@superhappy Friendzone? Butthurt MRA garbage? Really? I got a piece of Robyn's mind for you:

"You're a selfish narcissistic psycho-freakin' boot-licking Nazi creep and you can't handle me."

@ncc74656m Awww, that's sweet, thanks!

But do tell, what is your interpretation? Easy to criticize others'

And btw, I'm actually a huge fan of Robyn.

@superhappy You can be a big fan of Robyn's. That somehow translates itself into making it ok to be an MRA bro-douche? It's funny that you're proclaiming yourself a fan of Robyn's to defend this, that's sort of the subject of this song and Handle Me. You can still be wrong and be trashed for it and the shitty personality that generated my reply.

She implores the subject the of song not to fall in love with her because for one reason or another, it would be a disaster. It's implied loosely that she has her own issues that she...
