Another night another year that's gone,
Raise your glass I'm not home tonight,
Nothing's changed but everything is different,
Getting cold in the bus stop light.

All the days all the times we spent,
Making plans for another life,
Staring out of a back seat window,
Making cuts with a plastic knife.

This dirty heart still longs to beat,
Back in your arms,
Back on your street.

These open wounds you gave me,
These broken bones will take me,
Crawling on through the debris of my,
Dirty little heart.

Another flag stone I don't belong,
An empty glass still not home tonight,
I look for change but only find indifference,
I'm growing old in the glare of the spotlight.

All those nights all these hearts I've haunted,
All the memories we've shared,
I wonder if this will ever be different,
I wonder if it will ever be spared.

This dirty heart still longs to beat,
Back in your arms,
Back on your street.

These open wounds you gave me,
These broken bones will take me,
Crawling on through the debris of my,
Dirty little,
These open wounds you gave me,
These broken bones will take me,
Crawling on through the debris of my,
Dirty little heart.

This dirty heart,
Still longs to beat,
Back in your arms,
Back on your street.

These open wounds you gave me,
These broken bones will take me,
Crawling on through the debris of my,
Dirty, dirty,
These open wounds you gave me,
These broken bones will take me,
Crawling on through the debris of my,
Dirty little heart.

Another fascinating song. This song alot of people can relate to. It's basically about a man who had either recently or a few years back broke up with a girl, and ever since the break up had happend his heart has turned black, dirty and, cold. Although he knows his heart is full of hate because of the scars that were formed during the relationship and after the relationship had ended all he wants to do is be with that person again. It seems he is writing as if he knows that he has done some terrible things but it doesn't matter, he still wants to be in the arms of that one and only person

    To me, it seems like he personally did some bad things during their relationship such as cheating, I dunno what it was specifically but maybe to do with thinking that the relationship wasn't going anywhere with the line;

All the days all the times we spent, Making plans for another life, Staring out of a back seat window, Making cuts with a plastic knife.

The 'plastic knife' part makes me think this because a plastic knife isn't a proper real knife.

However the other half has called it quits and had enough. He has now realised what he has done and that he has thrown it all away and he regrets it all, wishing he could have it all back, pretty much. Post your ideas.

Love this song, his voice is so full of emotion.

Erm, I don't have the album yet so don't know the official lyrics (if there even is an official version)so I may be wrong but to me it sounds like the lyrics are "I look for change but only find INDIFFERENCE" and "I wonder if HE will ever be spared." Might just be my ears though ;]

As for what the song means I quite like the version MichaelHutcheon gave, although maybe not cheated, but just didn't give the time and attention to the relationship (raise your glass I'm not home tonight) but also it kinda seems like it could be a two way thing, a destructive relationship (these open wounds you gave me) 'making cuts with a plastic knife' could be seen as using little seemingly harmless things to wound each other, again referring to a destructive relationship.

On an aside, I think the line 'growing old in the glare of a spotlight' probably refers to the fame he's found with the 'prophets because a lot of the time you hear about in interview him saying how much people hate on him and the band and judge everything they do and all the rumours etc.

But idk, it's all just an opinion at the end of the day and it'll mean something different to everyone depending on their points of view ;]

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
