To me, it seems like he personally did some bad things during their relationship such as cheating, I dunno what it was specifically but maybe to do with thinking that the relationship wasn't going anywhere with the line;

The 'plastic knife' part makes me think this because a plastic knife isn't a proper real knife.
However the other half has called it quits and had enough. He has now realised what he has done and that he has thrown it all away and he regrets it all, wishing he could have it all back, pretty much. Post your ideas.
