Stand Too Close Lyrics
If I stand too close
I might fall in
But if I'm too far gone
I'll never win
And if you believe in me
I might just wanna spend some time with you again
I'm afraid I tend to disappear
Into an anxious state
When you draw near
There is no reasoning
It's quite a silly thing
But it's the way I've been for years
So I will understand if you don't stay
They say I'm great at first
But then the magic fades
Into an awful hue of dismal views
And pessimistic attitudes
All this distance...
Years of sweet resistance
Swirling overhead like angry clouds of discontent
I have apologized a billion times
When I've gone off the wall
Like Busta Rhymes
And pulled a stupid stunt
That left you thinking
There was something wrong with me
You've thrown a few choice phrases at my way
And I've ignored them all
As best I could
Except that tiny bit
How I just can't commit
There was some truth in what you say
All this distance...
Years of sweet resistance
Swirling overhead like angry clouds of disco
If I stand too close
I might fall in
But if I'm too far gone
I'll never win
And if you believe in me
I might just wanna spend some time with you again
I'll spend time with you again
If I stand too close
I might fall in
But if I'm too far gone
I'll never win
If you believe in me
I might just wanna spend some time with you again
I might fall in
But if I'm too far gone
I'll never win
And if you believe in me

This sounds to me like a song about a man who has had a pretty bad past with his relationships, to the point where he doesn't trust his partners.
He's too afraid of standing too close and he won't commit.
I think the first "disco" is supposed to be discontent. The second time around he shortens it to disco
"And a sadistic attitude" is actually "and pessimistic attitudes"
"Except that time you put"
should be:
"Except that tiny bit"
this song along with Disappear are the best songs on the record
Disappear isn't one of my favourites even though I think it's one of the better songs off the album. Stand Too Close is probably my favourite due to its originality and @!#?@! is probably my second favourite.

from the lyric book: (corrections bolded)
Chunk 5: I have apologized a billion times When I've gone off the wall Like <b>Busta</b> Rhymes.
Chunk 6: All this distance... Years of sweet resistance Swirling over my head like angry clouds of <b>disco</b>.
not many changes, nice job :) and I know what you're thinking: <i>"'angry clouds of disco'?"</i> yep. that's what it says.
I believe its actually <b> dischord </b> which is a musical term for a clashing harmony.

that <i>seems</i> to make more sense, but the lyric book clearly says "disco" :)
