Norway Lyrics
We were sleeping till
You came along
With your tiny heart
You let us in the wooden house
To share in all the wealth
Don't you know it's true?
Norway-ay-ay, ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay
Norway-ay-ay, ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay
Seven figures leap the hungry mouths
The beast, he comes to you
He's a hunter for a lonely heart
In the season of the sun
Don't you know it's true?
Norway-ay-ay, ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay
Norway-ay-ay, ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay
Where you thinking that you gotta run to now
With the beating of a tiny heart?
Hang on to the things that you're supposed to say
Millions of stars, they open to your fate
Norway...
You came along
With your tiny heart
You let us in the wooden house
To share in all the wealth
Norway-ay-ay, ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay
Norway-ay-ay, ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay
The beast, he comes to you
He's a hunter for a lonely heart
In the season of the sun
Norway-ay-ay, ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay
Norway-ay-ay, ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay
With the beating of a tiny heart?
Hang on to the things that you're supposed to say
Millions of stars, they open to your fate

Everyone has their own interpretations of this song obviously.
I interpret this song being about addiction. I'm currently battling an addiction to heroin, and I can completely relate to this song. The Beast he comes to you, he's a hunter for a lonely heart in the season of the sun. That verse still makes me tear up everytime, since this addiction, this disease, this devil, this beast, has found it's way to my lonely heart.
I'm sure this song isn't about heroin addiction, but the fact that I can strongly relate to it is enough for me.
Plus, that strung out guitar during the verses? Bending up and down in pitch?
This is a very powerful song. It will stay with me forever.
SNOW WHITE.
On the contrary, I don't think it's actually about Norway the country. During this interview Victoria Legrand said it herself: "Well, it’s not specifically about Norway, it’s what happens when your imagination is triggered by something that is very powerful visually. And I understand what you mean, but at the same time, I hate when things are too literal, too direct." (http://flavorwire.com/68331/beach-house-decodes-norway-introduces-5-favorite-baltimore-bands)
When I first heard the song I'd thought the lyrics of the chorus were 'No way' instead of 'Norway' which leads me to this interpretation of the song...
There's an affair theme going throughout the album and the song before this 'Silver Soul' is about falling in love and stuff and in this song, I think the girl has found out she is pregnant, hence 'You came along with your tiny heart'. But when she informs the guy, or her partner of this news, 'Don't you know it's true?' he responds with 'No way' and if you imagine a really dramatised slow motioned image of someone saying that like, 'Noooooooo way' it can sound like 'Norway'. As Victoria Legrand has said "I’m very intrigued by words and how words change shape."
So this reaction of his sort of demonstrates that they're not ready for a relationship, like now if they had a child everything would be like set in stone and serious and that's why the last verse is like "Where you thinking that you gotta run to now/ With the beating of a tiny heart?"
And after this event the affair isn't the same anymore.... that's why the next song on the album, 'Walk in the Park' is about getting over a break up?
it's "diamond heart"
and "don't you know it's true"
Thank you! Will fix immediately, I appreciate it.

I love this. The "norwaaaaaaay" part always gets stuck in my head. C:
Me too. :D
Me too. :D
I love it though.
I love it though.
I love the parts where the synth gradually detunes. Beautiful song.
I like this song, so dreamy. Cheers to fvlc for putting up the lyrics...
uh, it's definitely "tiny heart." the original version of the song was "tiny hands," but she changed it to heart.
and, "the beast, he comes to you"
Just want to say that this album is so lush and has amazing pop meolodies...
As far as the meaning goes, I believe it's about a girl who is very trusting of others when looking for love. The tiny heart makes it easier to take and this girl is willing to hand it over quickly because they want a relationship so bad. However, this leads to giving your heart to the wrong person. The song says "Seven figures leap the hungry mouths" which to me refers to yearly income. So a rich guy is trying to use his power to use lonely willing women. In the end the song asks "Where you thinking that you gotta run to now with the beating of a tiny heart?" This person has fallen victim to a man who will do whatever it takes for cheap sex while she clings to false love.
I love the last line "Millions of stars, they hold onto your breath." She says the right things, maybe even to reject the guy who wants her, but in the end her words fall short and like stars they become old and a former shell. It doesn't matter what you said because it might as well have never been said at all.
well, if you did not know, Norway is a country in scandinavia, northern europe..a tiny but very wealthy country. On many lists we are ranked as the best country in the world to live in, among them the UNs list. we have a social democratic government which means we share our money with each other, (the rich pay more taxes than middle class and the poor), so the disabled and the poor people can have a life worth living. we also give a big amount of our state budget to poor countries. and we have free health care! but...

The song is about.....Norway- like Canada...both countries that care for their people. Democracies with a socialistic heart. Countries that are not perfect, but the world would be a better place if certain larger, richer greedier countries would follow their lead.

I say you're BOTH full of sh*t and neither of you are from Norway. May I suggest you read up about your supposed country: http://en (dot) wikipedia (dot) org/wiki/Norway. It ain't so pretty once you educate yourself on it. Thanks to oil; shipping location; lack of population; and its ability to keep outsiders OUT (yes, they are such loving people those Norwegians:), Norway has done rather well for itself. Then again, they still come over to the U.S. for healthcare when they are desperate because their system is under par, no different from Canada's or the rest of Europe's. Get...
