Disappear Lyrics
To the deep end, to the hard line
Hold this trick together, men
Hold this trick together, if you can
Little fevers wrapped in dedication
All strung out on novelty
Collapse yourself and try to comprehend
An angry island, a bitter bee sting
Severing each artery
To free the self and fix the in between
It's isolation, mark the earth around you
Guess who's on the waiting list
I'll let you in on something secret
I can disappear
Anytime I want to, time I feel you
Shovle through my skin
I am with you til the end
First you breathe out, then you have to breathe in
Lash yourself repeatedly
Until it sticks, until it sticks
Under the eyelids, carry on cadaver
Festering interiors
All hollow breach and vapor silhouette
Need medication, more medication
Coursing through your interstates
All matter gray, confused and counterfeit
Kamikaze, sear the blood inside me
Guess who's got it figured out
I'll let you in on something secret
I can disappear
Anytime I want to, time I feel you
Shovel through my skin
I am with you til the end
And I can decompose
When it suits me I accelerate it
Wicked on all fours,
I surrender to the storm
You'll never know how it feels
You'll never know how it feels
Can you feel it?
Can you feel it?
I can disappear
Anytime I want to, time I feel you
Shovel through my skin
I am with you til the end
I can decompose
When it suits me, I accelerate it
Wicked on all fours,
I surrender to the storm
And I can disappear
Anytime I want to, time I feel you
Shovel through my skin
I am with you til the end, I'm with you til the end
Hold this trick together, men
Hold this trick together, if you can
All strung out on novelty

I'll start by saying I really love this song.
The title of the song made me immediately think of a lyric off of an earlier MCS song. "I reach for the bottle and disappear" from Better Open the Door. Generally speaking, I this song is about using alcohol as a means to escape from your problems. "Disappear" refers to the whole escapism idea. Also the line "Medication, need medication" refers to self medicating via alcohol, and developing a "need" for it. "Coursing through your interstates, All mad and great, confused and counterfeit" - I think here interstates are an analogy to the network of veins and blood vessels in the human body, and alcohol is coursing through them. The second part of the line of course refers to the mental/behavioral characteristics of someone who is drunk. Mad, Great (feeling good), confused, counterfeit (all of those feelings are false and fleeting). This of course is just my own personal opinion.
I really like this description and given Justin's history with alcohol this fits really well. There's really an image of self loathing in the song with lines like "angry island" "it's isolation" "festering interiors" etc.

I've gone back and forth between "shuffle" and "shovel" but if you listen towards the end when the music drops for the chorus, it sounds a lot more like shuffle.
On that note this song is amazing live, as is the other new song "A Lifeless Ordinary" Their show at the Triple Rock was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Can't wait for January 19th!!!
I think this song has to do with yes escapeism, the whole drinking thing, and the veins stuff makes sense. I think it has to do with being out of control, I found references to animalistic behavior: and I can decompose when it suits me I accelerate it we get on all fours I surrender to the storm
Decompose from human behaviour to something more primitave and course. THe language he uses in the chorus shows a courseness and roughness; coursing through your innerstates I'm matergrate confused and counterfeit kamakazi's sear the blood inside you.
He realises that this is a pattern he must break: lash yourself repeatedly until it sticks until it sticks
But the animalistic calling brings him back to falling to his addiction: Need medication, more medication
I think the 'I can dissapear' tells people that he knows he deteriorates from his usual self when the alcohol. And he talks about it like an advantage cos he can dissapear 'any time I want to, time I feel you', but he does realise that it is a neverending and irreversable cycle: first you breathe out/ than you have to breathe in
This guy Justin Pierre is brilliant
i think it's, "need medication, more medication coursing through your interstates all mad and great, confused and counterfeit."
at least, that's all i can come up with.
and i also think it's just "and i can decompose when it suits me, i accelerate it."
I corrected some of it:
To the deep end, to the heart line Hold it straight together, man Hold it straight together, if you can Little fevers wrapped in medication All strung out on novelty Collapse yourself and try to comprehend An angry island, a bitter bee sting Severing and shattering Free the self and fix the between It's isolation, mark the earth around you Guess who's on the waiting list? I'll let you in on something secret
I can disappear Anytime I want to, time I feel you Shuffle through my skin I am with you til the end
First you breathe out, then you have to breathe in Lash yourself repeatedly Until it sticks, until it sticks Under the eyelids, carry on cadaver Festering interiors All hollow breach and vapor silhouette Need medication, more medication Coursing through your interstates All mad and great, confused and counterfeit Kamikaze, sear the blood inside me Guess who's got it figured out? I'll let you in on something secret
I can disappear Anytime I want to, time I feel you Shuffle through my skin I am with you til the end
And I can decompose When it suits me, I accelerate it Wicked on all fours, I surrender to the storm
You'll never know how it feels You'll never know how it feels Can you feel it? Can you feel it?
I can disappear Anytime I want to, time I feel you Shuffle through my skin I am with you til the end
And I can decompose When it suits me, I accelerate it Wicked on all fours, I surrender to the storm
And I can disappear Anytime I want to, time I feel you Shuffle through my skin I am with you til the end I am with you til the end
That does look a lot better, bfg. Have you submitted those as corrections? :)

I like it; I mean, the first thing anyone's going to say is that it's really, really different from everything on Even If It Kills Me, but I think that they keep up their lyrical intensity which is kind of why I fell in love with them in the first place.

Any thoughts on the meaning? To me it seems to be about being able to go unnoticed, "disappear", even by the people/person you care about, how difficult it is to go on being ignored "first you...

i love this song. so much. cant wait for My Dinosaur Life <3 ahaha i love the name. although, when he sings "shuffle through my skin", i hear "shovel through my skin" does anyone else hear it or is it just me?
Just found out Joshua Cain verified via twitter that it is in fact "Shovel through my skin". He also said it's "little fevers wrapped in dedication"
Lyrics are wrong.
from MotionCityMusic Twitter
"An angry island/a bitter bee sting/severing each artery/to free the self and fix the in-betweens...I can disappear any time I want to..."
Also, in the video testimonial for this song, Justin says: "That song is more about you can go either way. It's like 'fuck it' or 'I'm gonna get my shit together and I don't know."
Yeah I think it's about the option of disappearing and floating along, or (the message being) deciding to actually do something and get out there. It's probably related to what Justin's been through in his life, as can be quite typical with his lyrics.
I do love his lyrics, but I feel like this album is generally much more cryptic than the brutal honesty he put into the other albums. I don't think anybody could write a break-up song better than Justin Pierre.
Is "try to comprehend an angry island" a LOST reference? Maybe...
