Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
I know that we are young
And I know that you may love me
But I just can't be with you like this anymore
Alejandro
She's got both hands
In her pocket
And she won't look at you
Won't look at you
She hides true love
En su bolsillo
She got a halo around her finger
Around you
You know that I love you boy
Hot like Mexico, rejoice
At this point I gotta choose
Nothing to lose
Don't call my name
Don't call my name, Alejandro
I'm not your babe
I'm not your babe, Fernando
Don't wanna kiss, don't wanna touch
Just smoke my cigarette and hush
Don't call my name
Don't call my name, Roberto

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
I Can't Go To Sleep

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
No Surprises

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
Lol. Some 'meanings' really gave me laugh
Well...I get it this way
She's on vacation in Merxico. She has a halo - that is a ring - around her finger, so she's either married or engaged. "Her boyfriend is just like her dad' means he wants to control her. And the main thing, she hooked up with Alejandro and Fernando and Roberto during vacation and now she's leaving them heartbroken....pretending that she's hurt, but she's not - she's just playing (she's not broken, she's just a babe; and she does that inspite her boyfriens whose like her dad)
she hides true love en su bosillo - she keeps the ring in the pocket
Wow that actually makes the most sense besides the dad thing. I still don't get how that fits into it.
"bf just like a dad"= he's much older than her, she's marrying him for his money
Acutally, I think the "bf is just like her dad" is in reference to girls often dating boys like their fathers instead of boys they are actually compatible with. She's bored in her relationship, and was only continuing it because she felt like she had to. She probably feels trapped. In the meantime, she's been doing guys secretly on the side, all given common Latino names in the song to inspire that almost movie quality "exotic, forbidden, foreign love", but has had no real connection to any of them.<br /> <br /> That, or she feels like her boyfriend is more like a close family member than a partner. No spark.<br /> <br /> Now she's gotta choose between having secret promiscuous sex and feeling miserable about it, or not having secret sex and being miserable anyway.
I totally agree with what you were saying about her being engaged, but hiding the ring her in pocket. However, my take on the "halo round her finger" is a little different. <br /> <br /> It says she hides true love in su bolsillo (her pocket) first, then follows up with the part about the halo round her finger. So I think it means she puts the ring in her pocket, but she has a little tan line that leaves a halo around her finger. You know, like how in the movie Sherlock Holmes, he knows that Watson's girlfriend was engaged or married before because of the tan line on her finger? In other words, she hides the ring in her pocket, but can't hide the "halo" (lighter circle of skin) that's left on her finger as she wraps it around him.
In other words, she is cheating on her fiancee with Alejandro or Roberto or Fernando or whatever his name is. She doesn't even care what his name is. She's just a baby, so she is afraid of committing to her fiancee. Thus, she sabotages the relationship by cheating on him with some random guy while she is on vacation in Mexico.
Or perhaps the song is told from the perspective after the fact that she has sabotaged the relationship by cheating. So that would make sense regarding the part where she says "let me go" and "I have to choose". When she says, "I just can't be with you like this anymore", I think that shows she's regretting what's she's already done. Maybe she decides it isn't worth it, so she tells him to not touch her, and just smoke her cigarette and hush.
'en su bosillo' means in his pocket, I think what she's saying is that he is carrying her and her love in his pocket like a doll, which i also think relates to<br /> 'She's not broken, she's just a baby<br /> But her boyfriend's like her dad, just like a dad'<br /> saying that he is very protective of her like a child of their toys and he doesn't want to share her. She is smothered by him and thats why she says <br /> 'Stop, please. Just let me go, Alejandro. Just let me go' <br /> the repetition of 'Just let me go' shows that she is panicing because of his possessiveness (like all arises Lady Gaga wants to possess but not be possessed), this also is the sort of thing you say to a possessive father who won't let you have a boyfriend, because your his 'Baby'.
