Hm I never thought about the different names being due to forgetfulness. However, I really like that interpretation. Then maybe the boyfriend like a dad thing could mean like a "sugar daddy" giving her money.

I was going to type almost exactly what you wrote with an addition and a slight disagreement: I don't think the song is about a woman who feels bad; she's "done" with Alejandro *because* he's fallen in love with her.

The verses of the song describe men who fall in love with a woman who acts like she loves the man when they give her money or gifts – she creates the illusion of love, but she doesn't love those men.

The chorus is about the period of time immediately after sex when she doesn't want any more attention or physical contact from the man that she is with.

She has "gotten enough" from him; now, and she wants to move on to another man and ignore Alejandro – just like she ignores Roberto and Fernando – and she wants him to be complacent and not pursue her.

the men arent gay. there is no man in love with another man.

She's saying goodbye to all her past lovers. It's symbolic to her moving on.

I think the song is about three captors of hers. Alejandro, Fernando, and Roberto. She originally fell for one of them, but she's trapped by the three of them. She's fed up. She doesn't want to do anything for them after the way she's been treated by them. "Don't bother me, don't wanna kiss, don't wanna touch, I'm not your babe".

She's being kept prisoner almost in this trifecta relationship with Alejandro being the main cause. "Stop, please, just let me go. Alejandro, just let me go". She wants to leave but she can't.

In the end, she ends up having to kill the three of them to leave. She says even though she loves them, or has loved them at one point, she will not be treated this way. "You know that I love you boy. Hot like mexico, rejoice." When she begins "at this point" she talks about a choice. The choice to break free from them or to submit to them. She has nothing to lose if she tries to break free, she's already in the worst situation possible.

In the second verse, she explains why she hasn't done anything up to this point to fight this. "She's not broken she's just a baby," meaning that she's not messed up, she has just been incapable of understanding this situation until now. "her boyfriend is like her dad". this girl has been with Alejandro so long that she's lost lust for him and has almost become attached to her as a father figure because of Stockholm syndrome perhaps starting to manifest itself. But now, she's realized everything about this situation. She must kill them. "Gotta cool the bad" (after she talks about flames).

But the most important part is the first verse where she mentions that she hides true love in her pocket. She hides it from them so she won't get hurt anymore and they can't even try to hurt it. When she talks about the halo. It's about her innocence and the power of that innocence. She can manipulate them if done correctly to lure them into a defenseless position and strike. She has more power than she realized she had.

Anyways, i know its a very different way of looking at the song. But it has to do with fear of commitment, fear in others, fear of the future which goes along with The Fame Monster which is all about the dark side of fame and the fears that are attached.

At a first glance, it seems as if it is a simple song saying that she is fed up with the recent men she's been with and wants to move on. That very well could be what the song is about; however, the music video makes me think it means something much deeper and has a hidden message. All the male dancers do look very gay in the song and Gaga certainly isn't wanting to get away from them. If she was trying to get away the she wouldn't be stripping in front of them and letting them handle her like she does. Then there are tons of random religious objects and themes in the video which have nothing to do with getting away from the guys. If Alejandro, Fernando, and Roberto do represent the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost then the music video and lyrics connect very well. It would mean that she is throwing her previous religious life away, wanting nothing to do with God, and moving forward by being as rebellious and worldly as she can. Either that or Gaga just made a very weird, random, crazy music video that had little to do with the lyrics she is singing, which I wouldn't doubt, either.

I kind of agree with alienator. The song DOES have something to do with gays. It's a "tribute" to the Don't ask Don't tell policy. She is strolngly against it and thats what this song symbolises.

As for the religious parts; Catholics are also well known for being against homosexuality. The religious things, i think, means she can't decide whether to believe in God or to be a gay defender.

Personally, I'd like to view it as she is in a relationship with Alejandro, but then she meets a girl, and now, she has to choose between the two. I mean, hey, she's bisexual! It could be it!

i have read most of these comments and i do believe we are wasting our time - this is a silly song, great beat - but meaningless.
real life relationships are not like the one depicted. it is videos such as these that make young people think so. especially when they are indeed at an impressionable y oung age 13 - 18.

lady gaga is saying that religion is the 'she' and she wont look at you, only shun you because your gay. and alejandro and the rest of the other names are differant names for god around the eauro-spanish culture. Acutally, I think the "bf is just like her dad" is in reference to girls often dating boys like their fathers instead of boys they are actually compatible with. She's bored in her relationship, and was only continuing it because she felt like she had to. She probably feels trapped. In the meantime, she's been doing guys secretly on the side, all given common Latino names in the song to inspire that almost movie quality "exotic, forbidden, foreign love", but has had no real connection to any of them.

That, or she feels like her boyfriend is more like a close family member than a partner. No spark.

I totally agree with what you were saying about her being engaged, but hiding the ring her in pocket. However, my take on the "halo round her finger" is a little different.

It says she hides true love in su bolsillo (her pocket) first, then follows up with the part about the halo round her finger. So I think it means she puts the ring in her pocket, but she has a little tan line that leaves a halo around her finger. You know, like how in the movie Sherlock Holmes, he knows that Watson's girlfriend was engaged or married before because of the tan line on her finger? In other words, she hides the ring in her pocket, but can't hide the "halo" (lighter circle of skin) that's left on her finger as she wraps it around him.

In other words, she is cheating on her fiancee with Alejandro or Roberto or Fernando or whatever his name is. She doesn't even care what his name is. She's just a baby, so she is afraid of committing to her fiancee. Thus, she sabotages the relationship by cheating on him with some random guy while she is on vacation in Mexico.

Or perhaps the song is told from the perspective after the fact that she has sabotaged the relationship by cheating. So that would make sense regarding the part where she says "let me go" and "I have to choose". When she says, "I just can't be with you like this anymore", I think that shows she's regretting what's she's already done. Maybe she decides it isn't worth it, so she tells him to not touch her, and just smoke her cigarette and hush.

Your explanation makes sense to me. After I read it earlier, I went and listened to the song about 100 more times (I'm obsessed with finding the meaning of it!) and it fit. I mean, in the song she even says bye to Fernando, which is something you would say if he died. She also has that line about how Alejandro has to go "firefight and cool the bad," which could easily represent the imminent showdown with Roberto in Mexico (or where ever they meet up next). And she doesn't want Alejandro to bother her, and to leave her alone because she doesn't want to be caught in the middle anymore. Same with what she says to Roberto.
