Sentimental Tune Lyrics

You
In a simple grey coat
In a simple white room (Oh!)
Now you know you know it now, and so
Now you know you know it now

You
Hate the tender-hearted torch song
You catch flame to my sentiment, my sentimental tune (Oh!)
Now you know you know it now, and so
Now you know you know it now

Hard-hearted, don't worry, I'm ready for a fight
Unnerved, the nerve, you're nervous, nervous that I'm right
Hard-hearted, don't worry, I'm ready for a fight
Unnerved, the nerve, you're nervous, nervous that I'm right

Now
With your cause and affection on my mind
I won't yield; throw caution into the blaze (Oh!)
Now you know you know it now, and so
Now you know you know it now

Watch
With a bit of friction I'll be under your clothes
With a bit of focus I'll be under your skin (Oh!)

(Awesome Violin Overture)

Oh, now you know you know it now, and so
Now you know you know it now
Oh, now you know you know it now, and so
Now you know you know it now

ahhhh. the violin in this song. incredible.

i think this song is about someone who is hard to love

"You hate the tender-hearted torch song You catch flame to my sentiment, my sentimental tune"

but the speaker sets out to prove that she can do it.

i love the stubborness in the chorus.

"Hard-hearted, dont worry, Im ready for the fight Unnerved, the nerve, youre nervous, nervous that Im right"

This is something so simple but on 'Hard-hearted, don't worry, I'm ready for the fight' it sounds more like 'a fight'

This is my favorite song off the new album! I agree that this song is about someone who is hard to love...and I can definitely empathize with it.

I'm pretty sure it's "throw caution into the blaze", not "precaution into the blaze"

like "I won't yield, throw caution into the blaze"

yep

I might just be projecting, but I think the song might be about telling someone about your feelings for them, (Now you know, you know it now...) and not worrying about the consequences (I won't yield; throw caution to the blaze.) And even though that person isn't particularly emotional/sentimental (you hate the tender hearted torch song), and may not actually be that into her (Hard-hearted, don't worry, I'm ready for a fight), she's going to try. I think the "unnerved, the nerve, you're nervous, nervous that I'm right" is about her feeling like that person does have feelings for her, and maybe it's bold of her to say something, she is so sure it's real.

My Interpretation

Yeah I can see that interpretation!

Great song.

I agree with yesterdaystomorrow1. I guess it's about someone who probably doesn't really believe in love or at least not in all that "sentimental crap" but who is in love nevertheless, although the person would not admit it, not even to herself. But the speaker is in love with this person and knows that she loves her, too and even though she's giving her a hard time ("hard-hearted")she doesn't give up ("ready for a fight"). The person is a little nervous that maybe she (the speaker) is right and she really loves her (the speaker).

Does anyone know the TV series Queer As Folk? This song always reminds me of Brian and Justin. Brian who always says he does't believe in love and never admits what he feels for Justin and Justin, who is that persistend little kid that (almost) never gives up although Brian pushes him away all the time.

like MiMMi and yesterdaystomorrow1 interpeted... I guess this is about a song of courtship or wooing and of seduction. Hard-hearted (Sara doesn't care if she is stubborn) don't worry, I'm ready for a fight (ready to fight for her love) (sara's confident that she's gonna win her anyway so she's telling her to)Unnerved, the nerve, you're nervous, nervous that I'm right (and so she's right, the courtship is done thus a relationship began like telling her i told you so) Now you know you know it now

My Interpretation

what exactly does the phrase, "Watch With a bit of friction I'll be under your clothes With a bit of focus I'll be under your skin" mean?

Well, for me, she's saying that literally with friction she'll remove this girl's clothes and they'll be intimate together, and then when she is talking about focus and getting under her skin, she is referring to the idea of making such an impression on this girl that she'll have Sara "under her skin" like, always thinking about her, etc.

I definitely think this is about someone who is hard to love, but she's still determined to stay with the girl. The girl doesn't believe in love, or flip-flops on weather she wants to be with her or not. But shes going to keep trying because she knows the girl really does love her, even though she may not want to admit it.

"Hard-hearted, don't worry, I'm ready for a fight," basically means that she's going to fight for this girl, and not let her push her away. "Unnerved, the nerve. You're nervous, nervous that I'm right," is saying that the girl is nervous about being in love with the singer, and may have a hard time admitting to it.

It's not fun to be the one constantly fighting, I can tell you that much. But if you love your girl, it is worth it for the times she lets her guard down and lets you in for a bit. Thats whats keeping me figting for her. This is a beautiful song, I love Tegan and Sara =]
