I definitely think this is about someone who is hard to love, but she's still determined to stay with the girl. The girl doesn't believe in love, or flip-flops on weather she wants to be with her or not. But shes going to keep trying because she knows the girl really does love her, even though she may not want to admit it.
"Hard-hearted, don't worry, I'm ready for a fight," basically means that she's going to fight for this girl, and not let her push her away.
"Unnerved, the nerve. You're nervous, nervous that I'm right," is saying that the girl is nervous about being in love with the singer, and may have a hard time admitting to it.
It's not fun to be the one constantly fighting, I can tell you that much. But if you love your girl, it is worth it for the times she lets her guard down and lets you in for a bit. Thats whats keeping me figting for her. This is a beautiful song, I love Tegan and Sara =]
