Savannah Lyrics

Savannah
I hope to be there by the morning
And see this pining all transforming
Into the arms of the Georgia sun
Savannah
I'd love to feel the heat the sunrise
Brushing rays across my windshield as if one dries
The streams from off my face

Yet I know you'll be there cause you'll know I'll want you to be there
And we'll say hello as you're smiling in love
And we'll sigh so relieved I believe
because we will both know by tonight we'll feel normal again
But until then
Until then
Until then

Savannah
Our backs supported by a hammock
We sum up perfection like a handbook
And God knows it all too well
Savannah
We'll take a walk to find a gift shop
Who would've thought the book that you bought
Would never come off the shelf

Baby
I spent my life wondering
Wondering when I'd find you
I searched for all these years and now you're right here
I need you to know that
Everything makes sense when you're with me

Savannah
Walk out into the sultry evening
Cotton breathing when the sea winds
Brush the hair down around your neck
Savannah
You hold my hand like it's the first time
And all the feelings that our hearts find
Will be just what we expect

in the epilogue of Savannah... the track afterwards... does he say "Everything made sense when you're(you were) with me..." I heard that the last 3 times I listened to that electronic part.... It just.. it seems soooo sad to me.. ):... hm... Hope he feels 'normal again' soon..

This was the first song I ever danced to with the boy I'm in love with. We sang the lyrics and got lost in eachother. I'll never forget that moment. This is definitely a special song for us.

Savannah is such a beautiful song with a well-written lyrics. 'Yet I know you'll be there cause you'll know i'll want you to be there and we say hello' is my favourite part of the song, indicating that how perfectly these two people are meant to be together that they completed each others' expectation. He knows her too well and so does she. On the other hand, I can sense how he's waiting for her and how bad he wanted her around, but patiently doing so in 'But until the, until then'. The emotion expressed by Matt really makes me think that he, eventhough are no longer with her, still hoping that she'll be back. It could be that these two have already broken up, or she's dead or maybe she's with another man. And he, he's still reminiscing on the all good memories they have.

That being said, Savannah is totally a hauntingly beautiful song.

This song fits into my theory that the album is about the death of a loved one. Here, savannah is an image for heaven. After the loneliness and pain of separation (Sahara, another song), they'll finally meet up again in paradise. "Who would've thought the book that you bought / Would never come off the shelf" suggests a premature death to me. "I searched for all these years and now you're right here" is what he'll feel when he'll finally meet her again.

My Interpretation

Jamnastic - Good theory, but this album's about his breakup. The lead singer, Matthew Thiessen was engaged but it was later called off. It talks about Savannah, GA, where his girlfriend lived in. In this song, he's decribing the memories of all the feelings he felt when he was with her. Such a deep nostalgia and beautiful song. His lyrics are so deep that my sympathy for him was to the point I teared up.

Yeah man the "aznwaffle123" dude is right. I'm an 8th grader and I was first wondering if the Savannah was a grassland, then I thought it could be metaphoric for his ex's name (Savannah as in someone's name). Lesson 30.4 (The southern colonies) in my Am. history book explains otherwise xD
