I downloaded this song for guitar hero 5...it's friggin gorgeous...

I think he's talking about people w/ high profiles...celebrities, politicians, etc...how they can do whatevr they want w/ no consequences

The "beautiful thieves" as Davey says in his KROQ interview with Nicole Alverez at the Roxy, "are the self-entitled who are supported by a lot of culture to maintain that sense of entitlement, and who are given freedom to live in a way that is completely contrary to regular social manners, and not only are they supported but they are also emulated and revered for rather anitsocial behavior."

"Take a little life" as in getting away with murder. I agree with raydarat. It's definitely about the feeling of empowerment and invincibility that comes with fame.

i didnt get it at all at first but i think raydarat is onto something. i expect a lil more from afi than this song had to offer

Regardless of what this song really means, I think most of us can feel related and touched by the "Are we running towards death? I feel like this song is just beautifying the strength in passing the by-standers, and living your life the fullest while others are blinded by obstacles.

i agree w/ the people who say its about politicians, celebrities, famous people who can get away with anything,, but the first time i actually sat down and listned to the lyrics, i though it was about like a group of people that no one would suspect to do a bad thing, "are we running towards death, ive met him times b4, he adores us like the rest" like someone has faced death and knows what he is like, but also dosnt know what to think of when they're going towards him, but i ♥ AFI cuz of their undersolved lyrics ~also ♥ beautiful thieves music video~

I generally agree with people posting here, combining everything, here's what I see:

-Famous couple (of power of some sort) enters a party, guy assures the girl that they really aren't risking anything and they'll never be found out. The whole verse also suggests they're doing something dangerous that they really shouldn't be doing.

Oh! If we run this light Take a little life No one will care at all Oh! We can burn it and leave For we are the beautiful thieves No one suspects at all No one suspects

-We're famous, the "Beautiful Thieves" that have such power, we can do what we want and never be found out. By "take a little life," this thing they're doing might hurt people, might cause pain to some, might be interpreted as wasting our own lives, but we can get away with it. We're so important, we won't even be suspected.

-The first line suggests doubt. Maybe we're just shortening our lives. Next line, I've done this so many times, I know death ("met him times before"). Next line, but death will take us the same as it takes anyone else ("he adores us like the rest"). The last three lines seem to say "but so what?" Even if someone finds out we did it, or even if we die, we'll be famous for it! We'll just make the headlines.

In the end, I see people going to a party, drinking way too much, doing various substances, and for what? To "take a little life"? For fun? One user suggested that the song was saying to just have fun regardless of the consequences, but I think it's quite the opposite, especially considering Davey's a straight edge supporter (according to Wikipedia). If that's the case, and by the general sound of the song, I think the lesson to be learned is not to waste your life doing pointless acts that only cause harm to people and yourself. Regardless of whether you're famous or not, it's not worth it.

That's just my $0.02 and how I interpret it. It is, of course, and AFI song that can be interpreted however you want!
