Fireflies (Light Messengers) Lyrics

Sinking, I've fallen in too deep and I regret it.
I don't know is all we have left to say.
How do we pick ourselves up now,
if the clouds bring the rain before we evaporate?
I'll never be able to say I love you.

I love you. I love you.

Stay bright little fireflies;
make light before my eyes.
Stay bright little fireflies;
make light before my eyes.

Thinking,
without all of my regrets and my contradictions,
where did I go?
I thought this was the right way.
Do I learn to grow up now, or just fade away
under this tree of shade?
Or will I be able to say I love you?

I love you.

Stay bright little fireflies;
make light before my eyes.
Stay bright little fireflies;
make light before my eyes.

And all you do, and all you say washes away, away with the rain.
And all you thought would never change, washes away, it'll never be the same.
'Cause all i see is all that takes me away, takes me away.

And all you do, and all you say washes away, away with the rain.
And all you thought would never change,
(how could I let you go?)
washes away, it'll never be the same.
(how could I have changed?)

(It'll never be the same)

Stay bright little fireflies;
make light before my eyes.

Stay bright little fireflies;
make light before my eyes.
Stay bright little fireflies;
make light before my eyes.

Wish I could love you.
And I don't regret the rain.
Now that I'm sinking.
I would just say goodbye.

I thought xMosc was pretty good with the first part but i think he/she missed the last part though.

And all you do, and all you say washes away, away with the rain. And all you thought would never change, (how could I let you go?) washes away, it'll never be the same. (how could I have changed?)

Wish I could love you. And I don't regret the rain. Now that I'm sinking. I would just say goodbye.

he is definitely talking about a particular person who gave up on him saying his bad habits (probably caused the separation between them) would never be changed. All these complaints by nature can't stick to him and disappears pretty soon actually, but he is indignant because he contemplates in agony asking "how can I ever change?" maybe because he is abandoned by the person who once loved him, but gave up and left. With so many things going badly, he is really depressed, but then accepts these things by "saying goodbye" to lingering in the past and "doesn't regret the rain", but keeps believing in a better future symbolized by fireflies, messengers of hope and light to get him out of the darkness little by little.

the music is very uplifting and the lyrics, if you analyze them and listen carefully, do the same thing as well. his voice is so beautiful and it really keeps me going at this moment when i feel there's things about me i can't change and i can't seem to move on. this song gives me that finishing push.

love this song <3 can't wait for the new album. I think the first line is "sinking, I've fallen in too deep and I regret it".

This song is gorgeous; my favorite from the new album. It's a much more mature sound and for some reason, it reminds me of Thrice post-Vheissu. Not sure why, but I just can't shake that fdeeling.

In regards to meaning, I get a more spiritual feel from it, but I'm not too sure.

Lyrics as I hear them:

Sinking, falling in too deep and I regret it "I don't know" is all we have left to say How do we pick ourselves up now If the clouds bring the rain Before we evaporate

I'll never be able to say I love you, I love you I love you

[Chorus:] Stay bright, little fireflies Make light before my eyes Stay bright, little fireflies Make light before my eyes.

Thinking about all my regrets and contradictions Where did I go? I thought this was the right way Do I learn to grow up now Or just fade away under this tree of fame

Or will I be able to say, I love you, I love you

[Chorus]

And all you do And all you say Washes away, away with rain And all you thought would never change Washes it away, it'll never be the same 'Cause all I see is And all I feel Takes me away, takes me away

And all you do And all you say Washes away, away with rain And all you thought would never change Washes it away, it'll never be the same

Stay bright, little fireflies Make light before my eyes

[Chorus]

Wish I could love you And I don't regret the rain And now that I'm sinking I will just say goodbye

i definitely hear a thrice influence in the instrumentation

totally agree. it does remind me a lot of the alchemy index from thrice. especially the wind songs.

I think xMosc is pretty spot on. Just sort of reminiscing on a past relationship (platonic, family, romantic, etc.) while analyzing yourself and realizing that you're not the person you once were; which may be for better or for worse. Whatever happened with this relationship apparently dealt a pretty devastating blow to both parties involved and ended on fairly bad terms. While thinking about the past you realize that maybe you said some hurtful things out of anger when things were ending. Yet despite how ugly things got in the end, you still "don't regret the rain".

Sounds like he's remorseful to the way things turned out and is wishing things had played out differently and even in the midst of all the bad, he remembers the good of it all.

Funny how when we look back on things, it's typically the good that we hold onto. Awesome song by the way; I some them live in April at Bamboozle Left earlier this year. This was the last song they played and I instantly loved it. Couldn't wait for this album to drop.

xMosc and jfang407... spot on. Your analysises gave me goosebumps. God...I love Cove's lyrics; all in all I love Saosin music.

Cove is the man and this song is SO amazing. No doubt... Cove Reber = Saosin.. I've actually told him this. He knows it.

But seeing how he's moved on past Saosin, I look forward to what he does.. but it's a shame.

This song and "Nothing Is What It Seems" are AWESOME, BADAS$ songs.. and Voices, as well.

I'ma take a stab at this one...

Sinking, I've fallen in too deep and I regret it. I don't know is all we have left to say. How do we pick ourselves up now, if the clouds bring the rain before we evaporate? I'll never be able to say I love you.

He could be saying he's losing hope in who he is becoming. like he is sinking in the regret of what hes become and he can't pick himself up because he's lost sight of who he really is. He is slowly "evaporating" and while he is totally lost in what he is becoming he is afraid he won't be able to tell the people that matter how he feels before who he really is disappears in this new personality.

Stay bright little fireflies; make light before my eyes.

This could be saying that little flickers of light still exist. light is symbolic of hope. So he could be saying though it is fleeting, he still has hope; a small light.

Thinking, without all of my regrets and my contradictions, where did I go? I thought this was the right way. Do I learn to grow up now, or just fade away under this tree of shade? Or will I be able to say I love you?

Reflecting back on his life he doesn't know exactly what point it is that he started losing touch with himself. He thought living without fear and regret was the right way to be. But he is realizing that the negative parts of life, the regrets, are a part of him as much as anything else. The "i will not be able to say i love you" changed to "or will i be able to say i love you" which shows that his faith in who he is has strengthened. I'm not sure if the lyrics is tree of shade or tree of shame; i hear the latter and if that is the case he could be saying you should not be ashamed of yourself and fade away. but accept your failures, because they are a part of your life too.

And all you do, and all you say washes away, away with the rain. And all you thought would never change, washes away, it'll never be the same. 'Cause all i see is all that takes me away, takes me away.

Here he could be saying that he has changed. and everything you thought you would be, said you would be, it all changes as you become who you are. Life can't go backwards, things can not ever be the same. Feeling swept away in the storm of who he is now somewhat scares him.

And all you do, and all you say washes away, away with the rain. And all you thought would never change, (how could I let you go?) washes away, it'll never be the same. (how could I have changed?)

To me this is the most reminiscent line. Old relations being friendships, girlfriend or whatever... When his life changed he lost a bond that was very important to him. He realizes that it is not the other person, but in fact his own fault; and it causes him pain. "how could i..." has clear regretful connotations.

Wish I could love you. And I don't regret the rain. Now that I'm sinking. I would just say goodbye.

Knowing things can't be changed all he can do is "sink" in his memory. The rain could be symbolic of tears. He wants to say he is the same person and still feels the same; but knows, painfully, that he has become another person. He just wishes he could have ended things on a better note.

I could be totally wrong... but I hope i get the ball rolling. Please let me know what you think. I mean maybe i atleast get some people thinking ^^

Like your interpretation!

^^good call.. also I think it's "stay bright little fireflies" and "under this tree".

I can't make out pretty much anything he says in the pre-breakdown bridge so if anybody figures that out please add.

9/8 woot!

My Opinion

The song brings a lot of memories, but... this song is by far the most amazing one on the entire CD. Much more mature then the last LP.
