I thought xMosc was pretty good with the first part but i think he/she missed the last part though.
And all you do, and all you say washes away, away with the rain.
And all you thought would never change,
(how could I let you go?)
washes away, it'll never be the same.
(how could I have changed?)
Wish I could love you.
And I don't regret the rain.
Now that I'm sinking.
I would just say goodbye.
he is definitely talking about a particular person who gave up on him saying his bad habits (probably caused the separation between them) would never be changed. All these complaints by nature can't stick to him and disappears pretty soon actually, but he is indignant because he contemplates in agony asking "how can I ever change?" maybe because he is abandoned by the person who once loved him, but gave up and left. With so many things going badly, he is really depressed, but then accepts these things by "saying goodbye" to lingering in the past and "doesn't regret the rain", but keeps believing in a better future symbolized by fireflies, messengers of hope and light to get him out of the darkness little by little.
the music is very uplifting and the lyrics, if you analyze them and listen carefully, do the same thing as well. his voice is so beautiful and it really keeps me going at this moment when i feel there's things about me i can't change and i can't seem to move on. this song gives me that finishing push.
