To find this love of mine
I'd walk through wind and fire
Forever and always

These hollow hands reach out
For you to touch me now
Forever and always

Dead inside
My heart and soul flat-lines
Put your mouth on mine
And bring me back to life

Dead inside
No other satisfies
My blood runs dry
Take my life
Save me from this death inside

I can't escape this love
I want it the way it was
Forever and always

Don't you leave me here
Alone in all this fear
Forever and always

Dead inside
My heart and soul flat-lines
Put your mouth on mine
And bring me back to life

Dead inside
No other satisfies
My blood runs dry
Take my life
Save me from this death inside

I can't escape this love
I want it the way it was
You remind me of a time
When I felt alive

Dead inside
My heart and soul flat-lines
Put your mouth on mine
And bring me back to life

Dead inside
No other satisfies
My blood runs dry
Take my life

I diasgree with you. I believe it is about God. The "put your mouth on mine" line doesn't mean he's longing for a kiss. He needs God to breathe the breath of life into him. And when you're giving someone rescue breathing, you have to put your mouth on theirs.

"I cant escape this love I want it the way it was Forever and always"

You can't escape God's love, even if you try to run away. He's saying he wants his relationship with God to be the way it was before he started falling away and becoming dead inside.

the God connection is the fact that skillet is a christian band so thats why God is connected to this song and its lyrics.

I disagree, I don't think this one is about God. See, these lines make me think this:

"Put your mouth on mine And bring me back to life"

    and

"I cant escape this love I want it the way it was Forever and always"

I feel like it's a love he lost and he is just, dead inside, because he lost her. And he longs for it to be the way it always was with her. He wants to kiss her and her to kiss him. That is my interpretation, maybe it's just because I connect and feel that interpretation because it fits what I'm going through right now.

What is with this god connection. it's classic lost love stuff. Maybe some influence from the singers life.

I like how in line "You remind me of a time When I felt alive" ,alive is almost not hearable and then goes that powerful "Dead Inside". It's like a suggestion that feeling dead inside is stronger than memories of feeling alive.

    My Interpretation

Alot of the comments I've read say that it was about God's love. Even though I'm atheist, I didn't let that influence my Interpretation. After listining to the song and viewing the lyrics I've come to the conclusion that this is about forgivness for a wrong doing. Yes I realize this sounds like a religous confession (for those looking to shut me down right away), which I can understand how you thought about that. In this case I'm using the forgivness for a wrong doing in the context of a realationship or friendship. If you gain the trust of someone and do something that would lose thier trust, it can be very hard to get it back.

"To find this love of mine I'd walk through wind and fire Forever and always"

This means that he'd do anything to get that trust or "love" back.

"I can't escape this love I want it the way it was..."

This means that they can never forgive him and he wants it to be the way it was before he betrade thier trust.

"Don't you leave me here Alone in all this fear"

He wants them to forgive him and to not leave him alone

"Dead inside My heart and soul flat-lines Put your mouth on mine And bring me back to life"

He can't forgive him-self and wants them to forgive or bring him "back to life".

"No other satisfies My blood runs dry Take my life Save me from this death inside"

He doesn't accept the forgiveness of anyone els exccept them."Take my life" refers to them "Taking" the life that had betraded thier trust. "Save me from this death inside" means he wants them to not only forgive him, but also "save" him from the guilt that he had from betraying them.

"You remind me of a time When I felt alive"

He's telling them that they are the source a happiness of the feeling of being "alive". He's trying to give them a reason to forgive him for the wrong doing.

This again was just my two sense on the interpretation of this song. I hope all of those who read it, at least understand where I'm coming from and that it makes some sort of sense. If you find a flaw in my interpretation, tell me. I really like constructive criticism, because it make me better at what ever I do.

I don’t think this is about god yes Skillet is a Christian band but that doesn’t mean all their songs are about god to me I feel like this song is about a man slowly dying inside because he lost the person he loved he loved this person so much that nobody else matters to him and since he lost them he’s contemplating suicide and what he needs is for that person to “put your mouth on mine to bring me back to life” and to make him feel whole again

I am almost certain this song is a cry out to God to save him. "Hollow hands reach out for you to touch me now" referring to John not being saved and not truly being alive, he is a body without meaning and his soul is not alive. "No other satisfies" is also having meaning in a biblical context of Jesus being the only one who cam satisfy him. Also "take my life save me from this death inside" also referring to him crying out to God to save him and make him truly alive

He reuses the verse melody from the previous album's "Dirty Little Religion", the topics of the verses are all over the place, and he packs too many words into one line (goes to show...) and too few in another (it's pretty hard to find), and rhymes "Henley Regatta" with "Persona non grata", but gets away with it all as only he could.

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
