Watered Down Lyrics
In my eyes
Closed and jaded
It's no surprise
The lights have faded
I always walk away
You'll always hear me say
I don't need this
I've been given such a gift
Shame to take advantage of it
What did wasting lead to wanting more
Be careful what you're wishing for
Nothing that I can't
Hold onto my broken hands
I'm not thinking that I should anyway
So I
Don't care what you say
Cause it makes no difference if I throw it away
Yeah it makes no difference if I throw it away
Now my days
Are feeling numbered
The sad cliche
I'm hiding
under this spiderweb of dreams
I'm stuck here as it seems to be breaking
Shining brighter than you were
Something that I would never learn
I could never lay this curse on you
Cursing the days when there's
Nothing that I can't
Hold onto my broken hands
I'm not thinking that I should anyway
So I
Don't care what you say
Cause it makes no difference if I throw it away
Cause it makes no difference if I throw it away
Yeah it makes no difference if I throw it away
Closed and jaded
It's no surprise
The lights have faded
I always walk away
You'll always hear me say
I've been given such a gift
Shame to take advantage of it
What did wasting lead to wanting more
Be careful what you're wishing for
Hold onto my broken hands
I'm not thinking that I should anyway
So I
Don't care what you say
Cause it makes no difference if I throw it away
Yeah it makes no difference if I throw it away
Are feeling numbered
The sad cliche
I'm hiding
under this spiderweb of dreams
I'm stuck here as it seems to be breaking
Something that I would never learn
I could never lay this curse on you
Cursing the days when there's

Cause it makes no difference if I throw it away
Yeah it makes no difference if I throw it away

Wrong. These are closer.
In my eyes, coarse and jaded. It's no surprise the lights have faded. I always walk away. You'll always hear me say "I don't need this."
I've been given such a gift. Shame to take advantage of it. Wanted wasting leaves you wanting more. Be careful what you're wishing for.
Nothing that I can hold onto with my broken hands. I'm not thinking that I should anyway. So I leave holding nothing. Don't care what you say. 'Cause it makes no difference if I throw it away. Yeah, it makes no difference if I throw it away.
Now my days are feeling numbered. The sad cliche I'm hiding under. This spiderweb of dreams, I'm stuck here as it seems to be breaking.
Shining brighter than you burn. Something that I would never learn. I could never lay this curse on you, cursing the days where there's
Nothing that I can hold onto with my broken hands. I'm not thinking that I should anyway. So I leave holding nothing. Don't care what you say. 'Cause it makes no difference if I throw it away.
'Cause it makes no difference. Yeah, it makes no difference if I throw it away. It makes no difference. It makes no difference if I throw it away. Makes no difference if I throw it away.
It all just ends up tasting watered down. It's never been so complicated. And everyone has found an easy way out, an easy way out.
Nothing that I can hold onto with my broken hands. I'm not thinking that I should anyway. So I leave holding nothing. Don't care what you say. 'Cause it makes no difference if I throw it away. Yeah, it makes no difference if I throw it away.
I think this song is about their falling out with their management/John Feldmann and how Bert felt about the entire situation.
@BryanMac nope
@BryanMac nope
maybe. but if you notice at the ending, theres a separate excerpt from a speech made by Khalid Abdul Mohammad..'to get out of town by sundown. I say if they don’t get out of town, we kill the men, we kill the women, we kill the children, we kill the babies, we kill the blind, we kill the cripple, we kill the crazy'
didn't think that the used would ever involve some form of politics in their lyrics. they suprise every time lol. but it's a good song nonetheless.
sorry to post for the third consecutive fken time. i know >___< it’s really annoying. But I’ve come to a divine revealation as to it’s meaning. Not really but here I go. I think it’s either a jibe at Khalid Abdul Mohammad or the use of the excerpt at the end is to create a parallel to Bert’s own situation somehow.
if it's a political message. it might be suggestng how those who begin in poitics with apirations and hopes of creating a better world they live in, their purpose as politicians or public servants were clear, with good intentions of serving on the behalf of their citizens own beliefs and rights. but they get "jaded" and "closed" off with their own opinions, ambitions, agendas and ideals on what they think is the correct action to take, no longer serving the best interests of the general population. they turn corrupt and exploit the powers of their position. other peoples' opinions and feelings no longer influence their decisions or way of life.
"Now my days Are feeling numbered The sad cliche I'm hiding under this spiderweb of dreams I'm stuck here as it seems to be breaking"
their ideals or the dream of their purpose is no longer a grounded concept. the dream/ideal is dying. making them turn into denial ("i'm hiding") and keep chasing after false promises and hopes ("under this spiderweb of dreams".
actually the ending speech is connected to "on the cross, its for that song not this one"

You missed a whole part:
"It all just ends up tasting watered down (It's never been so complicated) And everyone has found an easy way out An easy way out It all just ends up tasting watered down (It's never been so complicated And everyone has found an easy way out An easy way out
Nothing that I can't Hold onto my broken hands I'm not thinking that I should anyway So I Leave holding nothing Don't care what you say
Cause it makes no difference if I throw it away Cause it makes no difference Yeah it makes no difference if I throw it away It makes no difference It makes no difference if I throw it away Yeah it makes no difference if I throw it away"
I think this song is about Bert's career as a singer, and how in his early days he ruined his voice. I think that the song is designed to not mention it blatantly, but hide it within the song. Watered down, meaning less powerful. "Nothing that I can hold on to with my broken hands" hands referring to his singing and "holding on" as in he's going to do it anyway, because it's his life. I think "don't care what you say, cuz it makes no difference if I throw it away" is a smack in the face to the people who say he can't sing anymore (which he can). Kind of like he's giving them a big fuck you, and he's going to do what he wants to. To me, "makes no difference if I throw it away" is kind of like sarcasm, like if you were in a fight and someone tells you they're going to kick your ass, and then your all like "I don't give a shit, do it."
Sorry if this bugs everyone (I know people who think a lot of their songs are about relationships bother me) but I think it could be interpreted as he's never able to hold on to a relationship.
In my eyes Closed and jaded It's no surprise The lights have faded
(The lights have faded, as in, the sparks are gone and it's starting to look kind of dim.)
I always walk away
(He's always the one to walk away in the relationship because he knows it won't work out.)
You'll always hear me say
I don't need this
(When they're threatening to leave each other, he doesn't have to stand and here her insult him, it's not going to work out anyway, so why fight about it?)
I've been given such a gift Shame to take advantage of it
(the gift being either 1. the fact none of his relationships work out, and taking advantage of that (getting women just to sleep with them, without the commitment) would be wrong OR 2. the gift is his girlfriend and he knows it's going to end one day and knows it would be wrong to try and fall in love with her and end up breaking both of their hearts)
What did wasting lead to wanting more
(Wasting a relationship makes him want another, maybe another chance to make it last.)
Be careful what you're wishing for
(If he wishes for a lasting relationship, he might find out that it's probably better that he just stay in relationships that won't work)
Nothing that I can't Hold onto my broken hands
(Can't hold on to a relationship.)
I'm not thinking that I should anyway
(Obviously if he can't, that may be a sing that he just wasn't meant to and that it's for the better.)
So I Don't care what you say
(He doesn't care what she says [kinda vague] because one day she'll be gone and won't matter.)
Cause it makes no difference if I throw it away Yeah it makes no difference if I throw it away
(It doesn't matter if he decides to walk away now, just because he knows it won't work, instead of waiting and letting the relationship naturally dissipate, because he'll leave one day anyway.)
Now my days Are feeling numbered
(He can tell the end of the relationship is coming near.)
The sad cliche I'm hiding
(Hoping that maybe he'll find 'the one' [which is cliche] and sad because he knows there a slim to none chance.)
under this spiderweb of dreams I'm stuck here as it seems to be breaking
(His dreams of finding 'the one' are being ruined and he can't do anything, because it will end with or without his help.)
Shining brighter than you were Something that I would never learn I could never lay this curse on you Cursing the days when there's
(He would never learn to stop trying to fall in love, and he feels bad for putting part of the curse on the girls who fall in love with him, only to be left in the end.)
Nothing that I can't Hold onto with my broken hands I'm not thinking that I should anyway So I Don't care what you say Cause it makes no difference if I throw it away Cause it makes no difference if I throw it away Yeah it makes no difference if I throw it away
Yup. That's most definitely not what it's about, but I think music is taking into your own interpretation and applying it to your own life/situation, so it's just one way to do that.
