Bitter Pill Lyrics
Turn your tired eyes home, put the sword to stone
Death by boredom, the rich man bears the burden
That the poor man seeks to chase
The chase is certain
Did not see it coming, better stand for something
They're wicked as they come, break the cycle
Racing down the flames, while building the coffins
Iron unbroken, break the cycle
It's a bitter pill, such a bitter pill to swallow
It's a bitter pill, such a bitter pill to swallow
I've broke the cycle, after all these years
Death by boredom, not afraid to reveal
What the world is sensing, the chase is certain
Did not see it coming, better stand for something
They're wicked as they come, break the cycle
Racing down the flames, while building the coffins
Iron unbroken, break the cycle
Did not see it coming, better stand for something
They're wicked as they come, break the cycle
Racing down the flames, while building the coffins
Iron unbroken, break the cycle
It's a bitter pill, such a bitter pill to swallow
It's a bitter pill, such a bitter pill to swallow
Silence is my companion
With a pride it's going worldwide
It's spreading worldwide
Across the great divide
With a pride it's going worldwide
It's spreading worldwide
Across the great divide
Healer, believer
On the bended knee, when push comes to shove
Healer, believer
Time and time again, you push me too far
It's a bitter pill, such a bitter pill to swallow
It's a bitter pill, such a bitter pill to swallow
It's a bitter pill
Such a bitter pill
It's a bitter pill, such a bitter pill to swallow
Death by boredom, the rich man bears the burden
That the poor man seeks to chase
The chase is certain
They're wicked as they come, break the cycle
Racing down the flames, while building the coffins
Iron unbroken, break the cycle
It's a bitter pill, such a bitter pill to swallow
Death by boredom, not afraid to reveal
What the world is sensing, the chase is certain
They're wicked as they come, break the cycle
Racing down the flames, while building the coffins
Iron unbroken, break the cycle
They're wicked as they come, break the cycle
Racing down the flames, while building the coffins
Iron unbroken, break the cycle
It's a bitter pill, such a bitter pill to swallow
It's spreading worldwide
Across the great divide
It's spreading worldwide
Across the great divide
On the bended knee, when push comes to shove
Healer, believer

Really awesome song. I've really come to love the way DevilDriver structures their riffs. Mike Spreitzer is a genius!
i reckon this about us,the fans, and the effects of dez's idol like status. we all want to achieve what he has, metal god and wealthy etc. but in turning to devildriver and other metal bands we put that burden{The reach man bears the burden that the poor man seeks to chase} upon him, so he turns to peace and quiet to escape it, but in doing so feels he isnt part of us all. but he has (in this song) just stated thats what he does and how he is. and its a bitter pill for followers to swallow to know he doesnt lead the same ideals in life we all hope to gain from his influence. Healer, believer On the bended knee, when push comes to shove Healer, believer Time and time again, you push me too far
It's interesting how the same lyrics can give completely differnt impressions to different people. A lot of lyrics are written with less of a direct, coherent point of view or statement. I've written a lot of lyrics and sometimes the syllables and words sounds great but aren't necessarily communicating any specific reference. Much of poetry and lyrics are written from the heart and can sometimes portray contradicting ideas. Anyway, I take from this song that it's about freedom and how materialism and the pursuit of wealth, or recognition (the chase) and that the rich man (not reach) man bears the burden... what burden? More of "the chase". "the chase is certain". It also seems like another clever and very Dez-like way of yet again calling out the hypocrites. "healer, believer. on bended knee, when push comes to shove." For instance, people who talk a big game but when shit gets real, they bow down. It's the way the world is, and that is a bitter pill; to face the reality of who and what we still are. "break the cycle." the cycle of "racing down the flames while building the coffins" More meat for the machine. We keep doing the same shit over and over and no one ever really seems to be truly happy. He's "broken the cycle" of "death by boredom". His take-life-by-the-balls mentality and fierce independence and self-determination seems to fuel so much of his writing and he always finds a raise-the-hair-on-the-back-of-your-neck way of expressing it. That's what I get out of this song. Also, I can also see @slayer4150 's point of view, I get something altogether different. For all we know, we could both be right. ;)
