Bitter Pill Lyrics

It's interesting how the same lyrics can give completely differnt impressions to different people. A lot of lyrics are written with less of a direct, coherent point of view or statement. I've written a lot of lyrics and sometimes the syllables and words sounds great but aren't necessarily communicating any specific reference. Much of poetry and lyrics are written from the heart and can sometimes portray contradicting ideas. Anyway, I take from this song that it's about freedom and how materialism and the pursuit of wealth, or recognition (the chase) and that the rich man (not reach) man bears the burden... what burden? More of "the chase". "the chase is certain". It also seems like another clever and very Dez-like way of yet again calling out the hypocrites. "healer, believer. on bended knee, when push comes to shove." For instance, people who talk a big game but when shit gets real, they bow down. It's the way the world is, and that is a bitter pill; to face the reality of who and what we still are. "break the cycle." the cycle of "racing down the flames while building the coffins" More meat for the machine. We keep doing the same shit over and over and no one ever really seems to be truly happy. He's "broken the cycle" of "death by boredom". His take-life-by-the-balls mentality and fierce independence and self-determination seems to fuel so much of his writing and he always finds a raise-the-hair-on-the-back-of-your-neck way of expressing it. That's what I get out of this song. Also, I can also see @slayer4150 's point of view, I get something altogether different. For all we know, we could both be right. ;)
