he loves her so much that he puts her up on a pedastool so basically he's bound to be let down. He's only hard on her because he knows she can do better and he wants her to know it's all with good intentions
that's not what I got out of it. he's really in love with this girl and sometimes he doesn't feel like he is good enough and treats her wrong. and he is apologizing for those actions.

I think he feels like sometimes he does things he doesn't mean, but she means everything to him, and he is just trying to let her know. 'I didn't mean to be mean when I said All the things I said to you' Just kind of proves my meaning. Everybody has downs where they snap and he is apologizing for all those times. He really cares even when he screws up.
To me I feel like he is blaming her for mistakes girls he has been with before have made.

And the parent is realizing their own brokenness and asking the child to understand where they (the parent) are coming from and he does not want his actions to push the child away and end the relationship.
