SON OF THE MORNING Lyrics
I am the rival. I am the one who speaks in whispers.
Hear me now, dear, weak forgiver.
Hear me now, weak forgiver. Hear me now...
Don't send an angel to face the devil.
Your wasting power on grace. A maggot will always seek to feed from the grave,
where I'll lead them and teach them to feast on the skin that defeats them, the skin they crave.
"If you could see like me you'd see you haven't won anything.
If you could see like me you'd see, it's by my grace that you're breathing."
If you could see like me you'd see you haven't won anything.
If you could see like me you'd see.
Every night I start my rise, climbing high into the morning sky,
but soon after I lose your bride and I damn your son for stealing my light.
This world is mine...
They call me the son of the morning.
I can mound all your fallen past the clouds as they roll in,
and when I do I will claim your throne through all these cowards you call your sons.
I am the lord of air and my dawn will last forever.
Go on pouring out because in the end I will have them.
"If you could see like me you'd see you haven't won anything..
If you could see like me you'd see, it's by my grace that you're breathing."
If you could see like me you'd see you haven't won anything.
If you could see like me you'd see, your precious light is fading.
Your light is fading.
Hear me now, dear, weak forgiver.
Hear me now, weak forgiver. Hear me now...
Don't send an angel to face the devil.

This song is spoken from the Devils point of view. "...I will claim your throne through all these cowards you call your sons"
The chorus is Gods direct response. "If you can see like me you'd see its by my grace you're breathing"
Very powerful song. Their new album will be incredible.
Micah said what this song is about on a video on YouTube. The link to it is below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bW4EGwqMBQ0
ex nihilo - i can see what your saying i would agree on majority of what you posted.
But after watching Micah's interview, its clearly in Satan's point of view. "i am the rival, i am the one who speaks in whispers" "where I'll lead them and teach them to feast on the skin that defeats them, the skin they crave" "soon after I lose your bride and I damn your son for stealing my light." Son of the Morning is another name for Satan, Lucifer, Devil. (just for those who didnt know)
"If you could see like me you'd see you haven't won anything.. If you could see like me you'd see, it's by my grace that you're breathing." If you could see like me you'd see you haven't won anything. If you could see like me you'd see, your precious light is fading. Your light is fading. " is God's little reply to him......... but we all know its not the final reply, go see FINISHER....SICK!!!
Isaiah 14:12-15
12 “How you are fallen from heaven, O shining star, son of the morning! You have been thrown down to the earth, you who destroyed the nations of the world. 13 For you said to yourself, ‘I will ascend to heaven and set my throne above God’s stars. I will preside on the mountain of the gods far away in the north.[a] 14 I will climb to the highest heavens and be like the Most High.’ 15 Instead, you will be brought down to the place of the dead, down to its lowest depths.
I think the song speaks about our ego and pride taking control. In the beginning, I believe he is speaking as a man who has great power, like a king or something, who believes he has the power to defeat evil by himself by conquering, and he speaks to God, calling Him a "weak forgiver", and saying to God, "wasting power on grace" saying that God is basically weak and too forgiving, basically challenging the Lord. And he also says, "Don't send an angel to face the devil", he's saying that angels can't beat the devil, but he, a simple man can.
And then the chorus kicks in with the Lord saying, "If you could see like Me you'd see you haven't won anything... If you could see like Me you'd see it's by My grace you're breathing." That's God scolding this man, telling him that he is nothing special, and that he truly knows nothing. And after the chorus, is God speaking, telling this man His wrath and who will always be the conqueror over all, because in the end the Lord WILL have them all.
We are the egotistical man, displaying our pride and how it makes us blind, unable to see like the Lord. Awesome song! I think we're in for another awesome hit from Oh, Sleeper.
right on dude!
right on dude!
I agree with xfullboost.
"Son Of The Morning" is an actual reference to Satan, so it only makes sense.
Micah explains everything in the vid thoroughly.
yes oh, sleeper said that this song is voiced completely from the devil and Gods only responce is "if you could see like me you would see....." i did some research of this and son of the morning is another name for satan, it refers to the star venus that i guess rises in the sky just before the sun rises, but the sun is a symbol for the Son (jesus).
Satan is just trying to say that he can win because the human race has fallen and can be easily tempted and lead to sin and turn away from God....but then the finisher obliterates these claims haha :)
blondy,
exellent addition to the convo. thank you.
"I'm Am The Rival" is a reference to Satan since Satan is also known as "the opposition" or "the rival".
"Son Of The Morning" is a reference to "Morning Star" which is a name for LUCIFER, not Satan.
They're considered two different people. Its a great song i just thought I'd point that out since no one seemed to be getting that.
You say that Lucifer and Satan are considered two different people? Who is it that considers them to be two different people? You?

I've never heard of this concept of them being considered two different people, could you please elaborate on that? I've only ever thought of them as the same person, however this person had one name whilst in Heaven and another after being cast out of Heaven.

Similarly, Lucifer's name was changed to Satan after his rebellion as he too was like an entirely different person after this.
In the christian bible they refer to satan and lucifer and the devil all as one person to simplify it. they don't go into detail about it becuase the bible focuses on god since its purpose is to explain about him. but in the satanic bible (and no just because i've read it does not make me some pentagram drawing, goat killing satanist) which goes into more detail about it, as it should, states that there are four "crown princes of hell". I guess they could all be considered on person as the devil the same way God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are considered one god as the trinity.
Uhh...the Holy Trinity is not three gods in one person, but three PERSONS in one God.

Is the specified "Satanic Bible" older than than any Old Testament manuscript?

Well thanks for elaborating, but like Edboy, I think you are getting things a little bit mixed up.

The Christian Bible makes all this very clear. Satan is Satan. Satan used to be called Lucifer. It's as simple as that...

Remember that Satan is the "Father of lies" (John 8:44), while Jesus is "the way, the TRUTH, and the life" (John 14:6). The Christian Bible says that there was an angel called Lucifer who rebelled against God and was henceforth called Satan. I agree with blondy. The Christian Bible is meant to be a complete manuscript, with no "extras". There is no reference in it that says, "See Satanic Bible for additional reading."

The true Bible was written, essentially, by God. The Satanic Bible was written (or assembled) by Anton LaVey, the founder of the church of Satan, over a thousand years later. If you want to know how things turn out between God and Satan (that includes all those other names you mentioned) go read the lyrics to The Finisher.

Lucifer was Satans name before he fell from heaven so basicly Lucifer and Satan are the same people... Just like Abram was changed to Abraham, Lucifer was Changed to Satan, but Lucifer is Satan...
It's not that the lyrics are not good, but I think that a Christian band shouldn't sing like Satan (directly), but rather take a narrative position. Instead of saying "They call ME the Son of the..." it should be "They call HIM the Son of the Morning..." and so on. Plato once made a remarkable note on not playing any parts in plays, songs and poems where one is personified as something evil; only narrate.
I think the position taken in this song, the position of Satan, fits perfectly into what the band was trying to do. That is, this album was supposed to be a concept album that deals with the battle between Satan and God and their respective kingdoms. It seems appropriate for them to take on the persona of Satan as I don't think this song would be as powerful if it was sung from an objective and seperate point of view.

I think that doing this song in Satan's point of view was a great idea. As blody269 put, it wouldn't be nearly as powerful as it is without that. It helps to show us the passion and power that Satan has.

I know that it makes it seem more realistic and convincing and I totally agree with their views. But it's kinda awkward. Being a Christian and singing (even if you're just acting) things like "I damn your Son" or "I am the lord of air and my dawn will last forever"...?

I hear you guys. Great insight. When you sing along to the song and you are quoting Satan (even if fictionally) calling God "weak forgiver" and such just doesn't sit well in our souls :P. So, when I sing the song, I just mumble the Satan quotes and sing the God quotes because I know that God conquers evil. :) I do, however, think that the image the band is setting is good and powerful. I like how the concept grabs us Christians by the shirt, so to speak and, makes us want to defend our Lord and Savior and...

Such a blessed band. God is speaking through them... Keep it up and God bless!
with a concept album, the songs are not meant to be sing-a-longs. concept album's tells a story from subjective points of view, i.e. Satan and God. That why first-person language is used.

These aren't just song's from the band's point of view, they are heavily guided by the Bible story, and (I believe) the Holy Spirit. That's not to say I think these songs are 'inspired' by the HS as the Scriptures are, but you get my point.

I think thronesforcrowns is right. I love heavy christian music when the band doesn't hide behind a christian face. They are writing these songs to wake us up and take note of our behaviour and actions. We are not unlike Satan, prideful and arrogant. It's not meant to be something you can sing along with, but rather be aware of who we are most like. Our goal is to be Christ-like, and we are not. It's a constant renewing ourselves daily, Matthew 10:38 "And anyone who does not take his cross daily and follow me, is not worthy of me."...

I like how he said it in "Vices like Vipers", this church is unsound.
