Familiar Taste of Poison Lyrics

Drink the wine,
My darling you said.
Take your time,
And consume all of it.
Let the roses,
Only to drain my inspiration.
The promises,
Were spoiled before they left your lips.

I breath you in again
Just to feel you
Underneath my skin,
Holding on to
The sweet escape
Is always laced with a
Familiar taste
Of poison.

I tell myself
That you're no good for me.
I wish you well,
But desire never leaves.

I can fight this to the end,
But maybe I don't wanna win.

I breath you in again
Just to feel you
Underneath my skin,
Holding on to
The sweet escape
Is always laced with a
Familiar taste
Of poison.

I don't wanna be saved,
I don't wanna be saved,
And I
Want you on my mind,
In my dreams,
Behind these eyes,
And I,
Wanna wake up.
No, not this time.

I breath you in again
Just to feel you
Underneath my skin,
Holding on to
The sweet escape
Is always laced with a
Familiar taste
Of poison

A familiar taste
Of poison

A familiar taste
Of poison.

This song is amazing and full of, in my opinion, euphoria and pain. (sweet escape and poison)

I see this song as Lzzy falling in love with someone she knew would pain her, but still cant get enough of the pain/euphoria that comes with the relationship. She gets high off of this person and wants to be consumed by the effect he has on her. Almost like she knows shes going to get hurt but can't stop or help the way she has become wholly consumed by the entire situation.

Drink the wine, take your time, consume all of it. She knew she was getting 'drunk' from the beginning but then when the real emotions hit her, 'I don't wanna be saved, I don't wanna be simple' (DON'T THINK ITS SOBER) I think shes saying, fuck the rest and forget playing it safe, this is what I want/need. Him.

Haunting and beautiful. Hits too close to home.

Sorry, didn't mean to post as a reply to Jelleephish. But our comments were kind of similar, I guess.

This song reminds me of lust and obsession. Lzzy is singing with an amazing amount of emotion in this song. The lust is too strong but she knows that the feelings are not mutual. They broke up and went there seperate ways...but no matter what she cannot forget the euphoria she felt in the relationship...almost like a first real crush for a teenager but stronger...the end of the song is when she finally gives into it and stops fighting the battle that is inside between feeling and logic. Lzzy gives into emotion and decides that she wants anything and everything memory wise and feeling wise. She would rather abandon all reality and live in the dreamworld she once felt.... The song can also represent fans and feeling towards fans.....poison, the addiction of playing on stage....familiar, Lzzy has been doing this for a large portion of her life so she knows what it feels like and it is familiar..."familiar taste of poison"..she is well used to the addiction of playing on stage and the energy she feels from the crowd.....when fans send gifts or letters oor flowers it distracts Lzzy from song writing " drains her inspiration"...

At the end she doesn't care...she is too wrapped up in the whole picture of stage, fans, performing....she gives in and wants to keep going/.....

He is poison. But the poison tastes to good. Poisoned wine. She loves him. but giving in kills herself...

I think the song is about a woman who fell in love and had her heart broken. She is still in love with him and the pain of thinking about him is her poison. When she says, "I breathe you in again, just to feel you.. underneath my skin, holding onto.. the sweet escape, is always laced with a familiar taste of poison.." I believe she's saying that she remembers the love and him so she can feel the love and hope she has when she's with him. The sweet escape could be referring to her memories, and remembering those memories always brings back the hurt of losing him. In this part, "I tell myself that you're are no good for me I wish you well but desire never leaves I could fight this to the end But maybe I don't wanna win" She's trying to tell herself that the guy isn't the one for her, that he's not good for her. She wants him to be happy, but the desire and love she feels for him never leaves. She could fight her love and desire for him until she dies, but she doesn't want to. She just want to let herself keep feeling that love, which comes up in this part, "I don't wanna be saved, i don't wanna be sober I want you on my mind, in my dreams, behind these eyes that I wanna wake up, no not this time." She doesn't want to forget him. She wants to keep remembering him, even with all the pain he's causing her. It's worth it to her to keep remembering him and she wants to keep the memories.

My Interpretation

I think the song is about a women who was poisoned by her husband. I think the song and video could be from her point of view after she was killed, looking back on her life with him realising that he never really loved her, it was all lies. In the first verse when it says "But the roses were only to drain my inspiration, the promises were spoiled before they left your lips" could suggest that everything he ever said to her didn't mean anything, and that the last few years of her life were wasted entirely on a false relationship. Some people think it's about drug use or alcohol, but I think it could be about all of them?

Am I the only one who thinks this song is about substance abuse? Maybe an addiction to alcohol or cigarettes.

It makes a whole lot of sense.

@SweetLittleFlames I do too. I just posted that. I am trying to quit snorting meth and the familiar taste of poison is exactly what I think when it drains down the back of your throat and I never want it until after drinking alcohol so perfect that the wine comes first but I never heard it this way until I quit using a few days ago and now it can't be more blatant to me. I agree with you and glad someone else does with me. :)

@SweetLittleFlames And you breathe it in when you snort it up a straw!!!

iamunconscious...is it really necessary to call someone stupid because they have a different interpretation of a song meaning? It can mean anything to anyone, however they feel like reading it.

@orangeflame08 I completely agree. Music/lyrics in my opinion are totally how the listener interprets it. One person could feasibly interpret the same song in different ways depending on his/her mood and what's going on in their own life. Furthermore, noone should ever try to make another feel stupid for expressing an opinion that's different from the masses. Free thinkers are few and far between. They are the hearders, not the sheep. Don't be a closed minded sheep. Think for yourself, break free of the heard and become the hearders. Sheep just blend in...

This song reminds me when two people meet. She opens up to him and he runs away. When ever she closes her eyes, she sees him and can feel him. She tells herself it's time to move on, but still she thinks there can be something. She doesn't care if she's miserable, she just wants to be with him. To her, he's just another taste of poison.

Where she says "I confide this to the end"... It's really "I could fight this till the end."
