(Ooh ooh-hoo, ah ya, ah no ah ah oh)
(One day, one day, one day)
(Ah no oh oh oh)

Sometimes I lay under the moon
I thank God I'm breathin'
Then I pray don't take me soon
'Cause I am here for a reason

Sometimes in my tears I drown
But I never let it get me down
So when negativity surrounds
I know someday it'll all turn around because

All my life I been waitin' for
I been prayin' for, for the people to say
That we don't want to fight no more
They'll be no more wars
And our children will play

One day (one day), one day (one day), one day
(Oh oh oh)
One day (one day), one day (one day), one day
(Oh oh oh)

It's not about win or lose 'cause we all lose
When they feed on the souls of the innocent
Blood drenched pavement
Keep on movin', though the waters stay ragin'

In this maze you can lose your way, your way
It might drive you crazy
But don't let it phase you, no way, no way

Sometimes in my tears I drown (I drown)
But I never let it get me down (get me down)
So when negativity surrounds (surrounds)
I know someday it'll all turn around because

All my life I been waitin' for (waitin' for)
I been prayin' for (prayin' for), for the people to say
That we don't want to fight no more (fight no more)
They'll be no more wars (no more wars)
And our children will play

One day (one day), one day (one day), one day (oh oh oh oh)
One day (oh oh oh)
One day (one day), one day (one day), one day
(Oh oh oh)

One day this all will change
Treat people the same
Stop with the violence down with the hate
One day we'll all be free and proud to be
Under the same sun
Singing songs of freedom like

One day, one day
(Oh oh oh)
One day, one day
(Oh oh oh)

All my life I been waitin' for
I been prayin' for, for the people to say
That we don't want to fight no more
They'll be no more wars
And our children will play

One day (one day), one day (one day), one day
(Oh oh oh)
One day (one day), one day (one day), one day
(Oh oh oh)

(Ooh ooh-hoo, ah ya, ah no ah ah oh)
(One day, one day, one day)
(Ah no oh oh oh)

The first time I heard this I thought it was great not only because it was catchy and well done, but because the lyrics are really saying something.

I think everyone can relate to the wish for peace around them.

pretty sure theres alot of wrong lyrics here. In fact the part in the first line that's posted here as "But in God I'll be him" is actually "I thank GOD I'm breathing"

This song is obviously about war(s) and the affect they have on the world. That is what i love about Matis, not only can he produce awesome rhythms, but his lyrics really have truth in them. Who knows, maybe there will be a day when there will be no such thing as war.

    Song Meaning

I happen to be a Hassidic Jew (like Matisyahu) and happen to know that this song is right out out the teachings of Hassidic Jewdaism. The basic theme of the song is the fundamental of it's teachings, and the Rebbes' most majorly emphasized point, the anticipation of the Messianic era when the world will be a freer, happier, safer place to live. This actually is one of 13 fundamentals of Jewdaism in general, not only of Hassidic Jewdaism.

I think the third verse is:

One day this all will change Treat people the same Stop with the violence Down with the hate One day we'll all be free And proud to be Under the same sun Singing songs of freedom like

Ministry
Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
