One of these days i'll buy you an island.
Seven saviours in the sun
And we'll dine on the finest fare
Our time has only begun.

But for now I've got nothing.
Got no title or land.
I've got little to offer you
So I offer you up my hand

Day by day we'll do our best.
As the water flows
we'll figure the rest
And all tomorrows will be grand.

One of these days
I'll spell your name in diamonds
but they won't shine as brightly as you.

So I offer you the only thing I have,
My hand to warm your heart.
And the storms they send won't touch us,
Because we lie in warmer thoughts.

We are only second-class citizens
In the names they call us not in our hearts
So close your eyes and take my hand.
Tomorrow's sunlight will be ours.

Day by day we'll do our best.
As the water flows
we'll figure the rest
And all tomorrows will be grand.

One of these days
I'll spell your name in diamonds
but they won't shine as brightly as you.
-
And Though we're hungry now,
Our time will come together
The dark won't last forever
We'll make it through

One of these days
I'll spell your name in diamonds
but they won't shine as brightly as you.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
