Prove Me Wrong Lyrics
Oh!
Sweet ignorant bliss
I wish
I could kiss
You right on
The fucking mouth
Because I want to forget
Oh yes, I need to forget
That nothing good
Could ever happen
When I trust people
Because no one is perfect
Because the world isn't perfect
And it will never be perfect
And that's perfect
You have to live this life
To sing this song
Let's go!
Why. Don't. You. Come. Here. And. Prove. Me. Wrong?
Why don't you come here
And try to prove me wrong?
'Cause I am a stupid boy
And you are a stupid girl
Why don't you come here
And take me on?
I. Don't. Make. Rules.
I. Just. Break. Rules.
I. Don't. Make. Love.
I. Just.
Oh!
I have seen the price of failure
And it is always high
And looking back on my life
I would have liked it if society
Had gone through the trouble
Of protecting you from me
The only assurance I have
Is my own two hands
The only insurance I have
Is my stupid fans
You have to live this life
To sing this song
Let's go!
Why. Don't. You. Come. Here. And. Prove. Me. Wrong?
Why don't you come here
And try to prove me wrong?
'Cause I am a stupid boy
And you are a stupid girl
Why don't you come here
And take me on?
I. Don't. Make. Rules.
I. Just. Break. Rules.
I. Don't. Make. Love.
We. Just.
Why don't you come here
And try to prove me wrong?
'Cause I am a sexy boy!
Why don't you come here
And try to prove me wrong?
'Cause I am a sexy girl!
Why don't you come here
And try to lead me on?
'Cause I am a stupid boy!
Why don't you come here
And try to play along?
'Cause I am a stupid girl!
Why don't you come here
And try to prove me wrong?
'Cause I am a sexy girl!
Why don't you come here
And try to turn me on?
'Cause I am a stupid boy!
Why don't you come here
And try to play along?
'Cause I am a sexy boy!
Why don't you come here
And try to prove me wrong?
'Cause I am a stupid boy!

I like this song. It's different both lyrically and instrumentally speaking. It's kind of silly, but it also seems more honest then a lot of MSI's songs. If any of Jimmy's songs are about Chantal (his wife), I think this one would be it (and I'm sure that's her voice in the song too). I particularly like the lines: And looking back on my life I would have liked it if society Had gone through the trouble Of protecting you from me
This kind of reminds me of my husband because he likes to say I don't deserve him.
Yeah! ... it doesn´t sound like most of their other stuff ... it it actually seems to spell up a bit more of meaning than any other of their songs.
This definitely revolves around Jimmy`s wife, Chantal -- if you think about it, it pretty much sounds like the entire song is supposed to be directly speaking to her. He says "nothing good can happen when i trust people" and "i would have liked it if society had gone through the trouble of protecting you from me"
Well, they are together, yeah? -- he trusted her. He wants to be with her, and she wants to be with him, right? -- they were meant to be. So ... "why don´t you come here and try to prove me wrong?" he wants her to prove him wrong of what he´s said. prove him wrong about not trusting people, having someone to protect him from her, failure, perfection, assurance, stupid fans (eheheheh) and all that jazz ... and though he doesn`t verbally admit he has defied those claims, he does say "i dont make rules, i just break rules".
"cause i
m a stupid boy/and you´re a stupid girl" ... i guess hes stupid because he needs to be proven wrong and shes stupid because shes trying to prove him wrong? something like that ...it explains why he also switches it around and says "why don`t you come here and try to play along" or "try to turn me on?"
... ... holy shit that came out longer than i expected. but honestly, of many MSI songs, this one does seem to hold some good meaning; though it still has that element of tease -- or sillyness, the right word might be? -- to it. So in some wacky way this is kinda-sorta a love song? Haha, well, closest thing there is.
eh, well, whether its some wacky love song or its just Jimmy once again demanding something of proving him wrong, making him cum, or shutting him up ... its still quite a fucking good song with its different sound to it.
I agree entirely.
I feel a lot like Jimmy actually. I think that this song and NWTD are pretty emotional compared to other MSI songs.
It's so cute! Chantal's voice makes it great as well, and I like how differnet it sounds from most fo their stuff.
The song likely has a very specific meaning for Jimmy and his wife, as has been alluded to, but I don't think many artists would go and make music talking specifically about their lives, at least not music they publish. It has a much more general meaning as well: it describes love from an extremely cynical, yet cautiously optimistic point of view. I find it interesting that people think this doesn't sound like their other stuff; while it certainly is unique, I can't think of an MSI song that couldn't be described that way. They don't have a "sound," because they always revise their style and experiment with new ideas. When one looks at the lyrics and tries to disconnect from the personal life of the person who wrote them, they can see that this song embodies the overall theme of "Mindless Self Indulgence" as well as any song they've made to date.
Granted, that's a bit esoteric, and I'm not saying there isn't an undercurrent of Jimmy's real life in the song, but I think the current analysis of the lyrics focuses more on specifics than it does general themes, and we're really missing half the equation when that happens.
I think the whole thing is about lust, and the fear of loving someone, or more so the fear of being hurt. He's saying he can't trust people and he want's to be proven wrong, but no one really can. Love never seems to work out for him so he just decides to have go have fun and forget about it all. Hence "why don't you come here and try to turn me on" as opposed to "prove me wrong". He has kinda given up on love but deep down he wants someone to come along and make him believe again. Just my take on it! Found it the other day and love it. It's got a different feel to most of their other tunes. The verses in particular are pretty rad.
