Runaway Lyrics

I was feeling sad
Can't help looking back
Highways flew by
Run, run, run away
No sense of time
Want you to stay
Want keep you inside

Run, run, run away
Lost, lost, lost my mind
Want you to stay
Want you to be my prize

Run, run, run away
Lost, lost, lost my mind
Want you to stay
Want you to be my prize

I was feeling sad
Can't help looking back
Highways flew by
Run, run, run away
No sense of time
Want you to stay
Want keep you inside

All along, not so strong without these open arms
Hold on tight
All along, not that strong without these open arms
Lie beside
All along, not so strong without these open arms
Ride beside

Run, run, run away
Lost, lost, lost my mind
Want you to stay
Want you to be my prize

Run, run, run away
Lost, lost, lost my mind
Want you to stay
Want you to be my prize

first heard this song when they opened with it at glastonbury, its so great and sad and i love it and was so great live. my favourite from new album, which btw is blinding ~ a really different direction to previous stuff. im pretty sure i remember them saying in a thing with nme that this song was about a kitten they found whilst recording. i really hope this is true and that im not going crazy. oh and they named the kitten squeaker

'Highways flew by Run, run, run away'

  • Highways like unending

'No sense of time'

  • no definition of difference or reality, she remains feeling the same

'Want you to stay Want keep you inside'

  • wants to keep her feelings/memories of him, even without necessarily showing them

'Want you to be my prize'

  • wants to win his love or for him to come back to her

my interpretation basically is wants her ex back or the guy she perhaps ran from but still loves after much time.

I agree with Mighty Chorizo. The layer and compleityof the song build as it goes. This piece is wellput together.

My take is that it always seems like no matter where you are, you want to runaway from it all but you can't leave because there is someone you love(which is where it seems as though there are two people talking as mentioned above. the on going tug-o-war, I want to start over but can't leave this person). Then there is the realization that you left and you aren't as strong as you are with that other person there with you.

I just heard this song on pandora and I must say this is quite an amazing song. Love Karens singing in it. I think this song is just as it says, thinking back and being sad about the past and the only thing that makes you feel better is just being in that one persons arms. You need that person to stay with you. You want this person to be your prize for making it through all the heartache. I think these lyrics are great because it says so much by saying so little. They are simple, easily relateable for anyone, and gives a deep emotion. Love it :)

it's simple but it's extremely painful to listen... It's about this feeling when you can't handle pain and you just want to go,no matter where.(,,Highways flew by"). You just want to run away, never stop and hope that these bad feelings will go away.

My Interpretation

Very soft-spoken and melancholic. But I really like it. I think it's obviously about a remembrance of a parting.

I think this song may be underrated on the whole album because it is so simple.
