It's about a love triangle. The girl is in a relationship with one guy, but she's in love with her close friend who "treats her like a child" (tu me traites, comme un grand enfant). The one part I'm confused about is whether he loves her back (toi tu m'aime un peu plus fort) or she just wishes he did. But anyways, they go on spending time time with each other even though they know it isn't right (alors que nos têtes nous crient de tout arrêter). And then her boyfriend/other guy knows (I think) but he continues to love her anyways.

Anyway, this song is about a girl who is in a relationship with one guy (that she does in fact love) but is also in love with a friend of hers, which I think started out as just a harmless crush she developed after a while, but then evolved into something more (since he teased her a lot ["treated her like a child"], she just thought those were fleeting sentiments at first until they finally). So the first verse is her talking to the "other" guy and explaining how confusing the situation is and how it got out of hand... and how they have nothing left to lose so they should be with each other. After a while, she gets sick of trying to strike a balance between the two guys (I translated it as two-timing, but rédoublement actually means like... a division in two... but I didn't want that one line to be exceptionally long since there's no single word for it in English), so she ends up leaving her boyfriend for this other guy that she's been sleeping with because they both love each other more than in her relationship with the first guy. But she feels guilty about this, which is reflected in the repetition of the chorus (it keeps running through her mind). The reason she feels guilty is that even though the first guy knew about the affair the whole time and even though she ended up leaving him for that other guy, he's still in love with her after their relationship ended. (I'll conclude my interpretation of it after mentioning this line which is vital)

I love the lines: Car sans rire, c'est plus facile de rêver/A ce qu'on ne pourra jamais plus toucher (‘Cause joking aside, it’s easier to dream/About what we can never touch again). It's like she's almost scared that the reason she loves him more is simply because she shouldn't and that after she leaves her boyfriend for this guy, she'll end up loving the first guy more than this second guy. Conclusion: However, along with the whole repetition thing I explained earlier, it's also as if that over time, even though her now ex is still in love with her, she feels like she made the right decision since she still loves the second guy more.

I really like the expression "le bonheur aux lèvres" or "happiness on our (the) lips"... I get the sense that it means "a kiss."

I also think it may have been better to translate it as "with one resolute stop" as oppose to "with a resolute step" but I translated it quickly and it's really late.

My interpretation of the first verse:

And it goes on, but I suck at translating it lol - I just didn't want to do a super literal translation because then it sort of loses the poetry of it. Anyways, the song is definitely about having an affair. The girl is cheating on her boyfriend with another guy. It seems like in the beginning the two of them are flirting and start to fool around - the guy tries to stop her, but they are just crazy for each other and can't hold back their feelings. She is conflicted because her boyfriend still loves her. My favourite line of the song is definitely when she adds "Et malgré ça" - which basically means "And despite the fact", which I just think is really powerful. Like "Despite the fact that he still loves me, I just love you a little bit more" It's like she is reluctantly disregarding what she knows to be the truth. No idea if there are any SATC fans here but it totally reminds me of when Carrie cheats on Aidan with Big.

That is a beautiful translation :) I just wanted to point out that after the line "Alors que nos têtes nous crient de tout arrêter" She actually says "Il m'aime encore, et toi tu m'aime un peu plus fort" which is the only time in the whole song that she repeats that line differently. It translates as "He still loves me, et you, you love me just a bittle bit more"

I love how she slips that one line in there showing that her feelings are reciprocated. And me too, I love the line "Car sans rire, c'est plus facile de rêver a ce qu'on ne pourra jamais plus toucher" I feel like the impact of this line gets slightly lost in translation but it's a feeling I've experienced so many times. I love this song. She sings so beautifully about something I can't seem to get enough of in my own relationships.

Also I could be off base with this one, but I feel like the lines "Car je ne t'en demanderai jamais autant/Déja que tu me traites comme un grand enfant" are implying that he takes care of her and that she already needs so much from him that she could never ask for more.
