While bullets shower the earth
We turn our heads and cover our faces
Now flames devour the sky
And I hear these words in the back of my Mind

Here we stand at this fork in the road
We got no time to waste
Oh which way shall we go?
This old world's spinning out of control
Oh which way shall we go?
Which way shall we go?
I can't believe this, it makes me sick

Fresh smell of death on your tongue
You bait the hook and here come the children
Another grave stone to sell
While you get rich in the valley of hell

Here we stand at this fork in the road
We got no time to waste
Oh which way shall we go?
This old world's spinning out of control
Oh which way shall we go?
Which way shall we go?
I can't believe this, it makes me sick

The devil's creeping
He's got us eating from his dirty hands
We feast on lies
Which makes it hard for us to make a stand
Out in the desert
There's a forest full of fallen trees
It's what they want
But it's not what we need

Screaming at the ceiling
Doesn't make it better
Slipped into a coma
Lost my favorite sweater
Ask them no more questions
You'll never catch them lying
It's time to make our move
And strike them right between the eyes

Here we stand at this fork in the road
We got no time to waste
Oh which way shall we go?
This old world's spinning out of control
Oh which way shall we go?
Which way shall we go?
I can't believe this, it makes me sick

well that part about out in the desert there is a forest of fallen trees, could mean we dont need to cut down the forests and stuff but we do anyways, screaming at the ceiling isnt gonna make it better, could be debating it out with people wont make it better cause there so ignorant that they wont listen to whats right. The devil's creeping He's got us eating from his dirty hands we feast on lies Which makes it hard for us to make a stand Out in the desert There's a forest full of fallen trees It's what they want But it's not what we need-the devils creeping and us eating out of his hands means that we are listening to anything that will make us feel better about the issues were having

Fresh smell of death on your tongue You bait the hook and here come the children Another grave stone to sell While you get rich in the valley of hell

people are killing in say a war and we are "Baiting the hook" getting kids to come and go to war just to fuel the fire to our battle that is useless and its another grave stone to sell cause were are just killing people for a needless cause, they can have their money in hell for all they care.

the fork in the road is a typical metifore about making a tough decision, we need to make a quick decision and it makes them sick because they need to think about a decision rather than choose the right one quickly the world is out of control

This song is pretty much about the evils of big business and the media. We turn our faces away from what is important, like wars, and are raised from youth to live in our own little box. We "feast on lies" that "the man" or the media feeds us. THere are tons of things that are more important and bigger than our lives, like genocides, massacres, and poverty. And ading a nice call to action at the end, he says we cant just yell at the box we were put in, but we need to "strike them right between the eyes. But we have an option, and should make the right one

Personally I see this as them being extremely anti-war about America's war in Iraq ("Out in the desert"). How the government wants it, but it's not what we need ("It's what they want, but it's not what we need") but rather than protest, we all just pretend the deaths happening over there aren't really happening/just follow along, or rather "slipped into a coma" or "cover our eyes" or "you bait the hook and here come the children" but that's just what I got. I'd love to hear other opinions!

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
