Glass Skin (Uroboros version) Lyrics

It comes and slowly stains my heart
Thats been cold, all alone and so tightly closed
The sins are scattered everywhere
Theyre around me
I cant see it
It vainly comes just crashing down
In this sad and forgotten little town
The truth we tend to look away from lies down deep

I open out my wings of glass
Up and towards the wind melted future
So just please dont go
Please dont go
Be close to you

I lay my head on top of the heavy and closed out door and I pray
The lonely future left for me is one of meaning of just living
It comes and slowly stains my heart
Thats been cold, all alone and so tightly closed
The sins are scattered everywhere
Theyre around me
I cant see it
It vainly comes just crashing down
In this sad and forgotten little town
The truth we tend to look away from lies down deep

I open out my wings of glass
Up and towards the wind melted future
So just please dont go
Please dont go
Wanna be close to you
I am now forgetting even the colours of your tears and love
So just please dont go
Please dont go
Holding on strong to what lies ahead

I bleed as my way of compensating everything to you
How heavy is blood?
Happiness and Sadness lies too close

The hand of the child born tomorrow will be just pure and nothing else
I can barely see you with all these tears

I open out my wings of glass
Up and towards the wind melted future
So just please dont go
Please dont go
Wanna be close to you
I am now forgetting even the colors of your tears and love
So just please dont go
Please dont go
Holding on strong to what lies ahead

The bell of reality rings out loudly from down deep within
And disappears with all the wind

It's such a beautiful song. Words just can't describe these lyrics. They're so amazing. But even though the lyrics are different, the meaning is the same. It's a song of loss and grief.

I think that it has less to do with an "innapropriate" love affair and more to do with the end of a long and meaningful relationship. I think it has a lot to do with struggling to move forward in life after your heart has been badly broken, yet still holding onto the memories of the love that has gone.

"I open out my wings of glass. Up and towards the wind-melted future" to me means that the protagonist is making an effort to move forward but still feels fragile after being wounded like that.

"I lay my head on top of the heavy and closed out door and I pray" to me means that he is dwelling on his memories of the past, the past that is gone and can never be experienced again (it is closed off to him), and he is praying that he can get ahead after the end. Praying that he can be happy again after being thrust into darkness.

I don't think the line about the child being born pure has anything to do with a real child. I think it has more to do with the fact that the future will be pure of the one he lost, the future will not involve her. And he thinks that without her the future will be empty of substance.

Whatever it means it is a very beautiful song. It has become one of my favorite Dir en grey songs.

O.o;; According to the booklet, the line is "The bells of reality rings out..." KYO just needs a little help with his verb tenses. Hehe

While it is nice of KYO to attempt more English, The Japanese version of this sounds better to me. I kind of wish this song was on the DVD...

My Opinion

this song sounds so sad. it almost makes me cry. i don't know if its kyo's accent or just how he sings but i almost couldn't tell this was in english. his voice is gorgeous though, especially at the end. all these emotions flow out of this song and it just seems effortless. kyo could probably write something in gibberish and we would be able to understand what its about. ah dir en grey is amazing<3

Kyo's english has really gotten a lot better. I could hear most of the song without checking the booklet. I think I like this version a little better than the single.

Wonderful song...the imagery is just amazing. Most Dir en Grey songs seem to tell an epic story if you really read into them, versus how most bands tend to talk vaguely about a topic. This song really makes me think of a love or an affair that wasn't seen as appropriate in the eyes of the townspeople.

"It vainly comes just crashing down In this sad and forgotten little town"

Whether it was an adulterious or maybe homosexual relationship, I'm not sure. But it seems that one of the members of this relationship is pregnant, and even though their relationship wasn't 'innapropriate', so to speak, the child is still innocent and 'good'.

"The hand of the child born tomorrow will be just pure and nothing else"

It honestly reminds me of a modern twist on the story of 'The Scarlet Letter' by Nathaniel Hawthorne. If anyone has read it, I'm sure you can see what I mean.

Song Meaning

One of my favorite songs & albums. You can see that by my display name. The lyrics "My heart thats been close all alone and so tightly closed". Pretty much sums me up. Great song can't wait for the new album Dum Spiro Spero
