Every Burden Has a Version Lyrics

She'd rather repair her face
With the lights turned off
The door wide open in an empty house
The frozen minutes are melting slow
As she watches from the window

The street light's flickering
Like a tongue that can't stop licking
Like the cat that got the cream
She's never gonna be
She's never gonna be quite satisfied

Just like a hundred dollar bill
Folded up and tearing at the crease
There's not much left inside your chest
But it's worth much more than what you see
Every burden has a version in somebody else

She smokes her smokes outside to avoid the fight
She'd rather be enjoying the silent stillness
Of the suburbs after midnight
What's the point?
Don't try to hide
Don't justify a thing

She's so naive to think she'd be capable
Like the cat that got the cream
She's never gonna be
She's never gonna be quite satisfied

Just like a hundred dollar bill
Folded up and tearing at the crease
There's not much left inside your chest
But it's worth much more than what you see (x2)

This will be the last time
(This will be)
She hides her eyes behind her hair
This will be the last time
(This will be)
This will be the last time

Just like a hundred dollar bill
Folded up and tearing at the crease
There's not much left inside your chest
But it's worth much more than what you see (x2)

This will be the last time
(This will be)
She hides her eyes behind her hair
This will be the last time
(This will be)
This will be the last time
This will be the last time
(This will be)
She hides her eyes behind her hair
This will be the last time
(This will be)
There's one last chance to say goodbye

This is song is fantastic, it reminds me so much of the faster paced songs of Santi

Anyways, what this song is about is clearly about a girl so knee-deep in decadence. And in some way she's always feels bad for indulging overly, but still does it anyways.

"There's one last chance to say goodbye", Alot of the last stanzas towards the end of the song is almost from a third-person point of view, and to me aside from living in excess, she might want to reedeem herself, or at least someone is telling her that

I think it's about a girl, so desperate to be accepted, taht she's making herself into something else. But by doing this, even though she has all the "friends" she could ever want, she'll "never be quite satisfied" because she isn't living up to who she really is. "There's not much left inside your chest, but it's worth much more than what you see" is saying, you've sort of sold your soul to be accepted, but it's what's on the inside, and how big your heart is, that counts, not what you look like and how many friends you have.

For me, this song isn't about living in excess. I think it's about being in a situation that isn't healthy. I almost want to say that she's being abused because of these lines: "She'd rather repair her face with the lights turned off" which to me implies she's denying the abuse, ignoring it and pretending it didn't happen at all, even though she's got the marks to prove it; "Don't try to hide, Don't justify a thing" is self explanatory; "This will be the last time She hides her eyes behind her hair" which, again, is pretty self-explanatory.

However, I don't think it's totally about being in an abusive situation. She may just be disgusted with herself, with her life, with the way she lives. She doesn't want to see herself for who she's become... she just gets through day by day, just putting up with it.

Definitely my favorite part. Great song.
