Hey Ma Lyrics

Now the towers have fallen
So much dust in the air
It affected your vision
Couldn’t see yourself clear

From the fall came such choices
Even worse than the fall
There’s this chain of consequences
Within
Without

Action cause and reaction
Never follows to plan
Black swans on your picnic table
Knocking over the jam

Please don’t preach me forgiveness
You’re hardwired for revenge
War is just about business
Within
Without

Hey ma
The boys in body bags
Coming home in pieces
Hey ma
The boys in body bags
Coming home in pieces
Hey ma
The boys in body bags
Coming home in pieces
Coming home in pieces

War

The dead live on within us
(In the atoms we trust)
Keep your fingers crossed
We were choking on the smoke and the dust
And the lives that were lost

Scratch the surface of liberals
There’s a beast underneath
Others hiding their Jekylls
Within
Without

Hey ma
The boys in body bags
Coming home in pieces
Hey ma
The boys in body bags
Coming home in pieces

War

I can feel the daylight
I can feel the daylight
Raining on me
Raining on me

ContinuousSpectrum has it exactly right. The line 'Black swans on your picnic table' refers to Nassim Nicholas Taleb and his Black Swan theory that 'The event is a surprise (to the observer) and has a major impact. After the fact, the event is rationalized by hindsight.' The usual Tim Booth understated, subtle genius. Respect.

it's about action leading to reaction 'action cause and reaction': how a decision made by Tony Blair lead to the Iraque war, which was a much bigger mess than the twin towers ever was despite less sensationalist media coverage.

Its about the war with Irak obviously, the war ther refer in the begining are the WTC, and then its all about Bushes "revenge"

I love this song! its got so much anger in it, especially in the chorus.

It is about the two towers, obviously from the first few lines, and about people dieing as a result.

I think it is almost saying that it is human beings faults that other humans die. We are not animals, we are the top of the food chain, so we are the only predators killing each other, this song is showing that in the end killing each other in wars is point less as we are all just as defenceless as each other.

Hippy Dippy by name and nature, one of James's most obvious songs. Whoever you believe caused the Twin towers the war in Irag followed as a result. What a fuck up.
