La La Land Lyrics
I am confident
But I still have my moments
Baby, that's just me
I'm not a supermodel
I still eat McDonald's
Baby, that's just me
Well, some may say
I need to be afraid
Of losing everything
Because of where I
Had my start
And where I made my name
Well, everything's the same
In the La La Land machine
Machine, machine
Who said
That I can't wear my Converse
With my dress?
Well, baby, that's just me
Who said
I can't be single
And have to go out and mingle?
Baby, that's not me
No, no
Well, some may say
I need to be afraid
Of losing everything
Because of where I
Had my start
And where I made my name
Well, everything's the same
In the La La Land
Tell me, do you feel the way I feel?
'Cause nothing else is real
In the La La Land appeal
Some may say I need to be afraid
Of losing everything
Because of where I
Had my start
And where I made my name
Well, everything's the same
In the La La Land machine
Well, I'm not gonna change
In the La La Land machine
Well, I will stay the same
In the La La Land machine
Machine, machine
I won't change anything in my life
(I won't change anything in my life)
I'm staying myself tonight
(I'm staying myself tonight)
But I still have my moments
Baby, that's just me
I still eat McDonald's
Baby, that's just me
I need to be afraid
Of losing everything
Because of where I
Had my start
And where I made my name
Well, everything's the same
In the La La Land machine
Machine, machine
That I can't wear my Converse
With my dress?
Well, baby, that's just me
I can't be single
And have to go out and mingle?
Baby, that's not me
No, no
I need to be afraid
Of losing everything
Because of where I
Had my start
And where I made my name
Well, everything's the same

'Cause nothing else is real
In the La La Land appeal

I think this song is actually about Disney. "La La Land" is actually Disney and/or Hollywood. "Some say I need to be afraid of losing everything Because of where I had my start and where I made my name."
A lot of people say that Demi is going to lose everything--her career, her dignity, etc., because she got started and made her name on Disney Channel, and most Disney stars grow up and ruin their lives. She's saying that it's not going to happen to her because she's going to stay herself, and not let anyone else tell her what to do.
The "Lala Land Machine" is the Disney Channel 'machine' that creates tween actresses, singers, and stars, and then disposes of them. "Everything's the same in the La La Land machine" means that all these people are the same, but Demi is going to try to be different.
This song is amazing, I love her.

I love this song. It's really catchy and fun. I don't think it is JUST for Disney, but it has some part. She's talking about all of Hollywood. She won't be another Barbie doll like most of the young girls are now. She wants to be herself and telling you straight out that "that's just me."
THIS WOULD SO BE ME IF I WAS IN HOLLYWOOD.
I would hate prancing around like a princess, people following me around with every dude I hang out with, etc. etc. (Converse with a dress? YES. PLEASE.)
And this song represents her a little. You don't need to be fancy and pretty and always ready to answer questions for the paparazzi to be in Hollywood. You can be whoever you want.
I soooooooooooo agree! I would love my pop band to be famous, but I would hate being a princess with crowds of people following me around. And for the converse with dress thing...LOVIN' IT!!!!!!!!!

this is such a cool song. it's basically about her standing up for what she is and when people try to bring her down or tell her what to do she's always gonna remember to true to herself and not care what people think
"who says i can't converse with my dress baby that's just me" i love that line cuz i did the exact thing at my dance that i went. haha

I like Elvawen's interpretation of the song. If that's the real meaning, I admire Demi for that.. I was a little disappointed that she got signed to Disney because I think she could have gotten more success and a better fan base if she started somewhere else. Some of her songs are really deep but Disney won't produce them because it's not their style. Anyways, Demi rocks! I love her.
I agree with both Elvawen and Jadore Music, I think even if Disney drops her or whatever happens (what do they do with past stars? A giant dumpster?) she can easily pick up with someone else, she's just so talented.
And this song is the perfect way to start the album, it gets you in the mood of HER. I admire her (if she wrote it) for these lyrics.
I agree with what everybody has said so far about Demi not wanting to change herself to the conformities of Hollywood. I really admire her for that and hope she always stands her ground. I would also like to point out that the city of Los Angeles is nicknamed "La La Land", so it was pretty evident to me that that was what she was singing about when I first heard this song. The line "I am confident, but I still have my moments" really jumped out at me because I think it's a feeling a lot of people, especially young girls/women, can relate to.
I love this song! Her voice is just like WHOA! Its catchy!
I love the ending.
her voice sounds so frickin' amazing in this song, i just love it.
