Antarctica Lyrics
Left behind everything I knew
All the colors but bone-white and sky-blue
Hit the continent running
Engines were humming just to break through
Antarctica, my only living relative
Antarctica, I can't wait anymore
Under ice there's a world moving slow
Carnelian stars and the bars down below
Serve only vodka and gin
I try to stay drunk so nobody knows
Antarctica, my only living relative
Antarctica, I can't wait anymore
And then there's morning
Each one feels like the first one
A morning, so clean, so pure
Nothing so clear, now that I'm here
When I get back to the city
Everything's cluttered and pretty
I won't regret my return
I'll just remember the wind and the snow
And the howling so loud
That it alone drowns out the inside of me
Antarctica, my only living relative
Antarctica, I can't wait anymore
I can't wait anymore
I can't wait anymore
Carnelian stars and the bars down below
Serve only vodka and gin
Carnelian stars and the bars down below
All the colors but bone-white and sky-blue
Hit the continent running
Engines were humming just to break through
Antarctica, I can't wait anymore
Carnelian stars and the bars down below
Serve only vodka and gin
I try to stay drunk so nobody knows
Antarctica, I can't wait anymore
Each one feels like the first one
A morning, so clean, so pure
Nothing so clear, now that I'm here
Everything's cluttered and pretty
I won't regret my return
I'll just remember the wind and the snow
And the howling so loud
That it alone drowns out the inside of me
Antarctica, I can't wait anymore
I can't wait anymore
I can't wait anymore
Serve only vodka and gin
Carnelian stars and the bars down below

I honestly don't know what this song means, but when I first heard it, I thought she was really talking about Antarctica. I thought that she was singing about how Antarctica is one of the only real natural and fresh places left on Earth and how when she goes back to the city everything's too busy, but the lights are pretty, but she still can't wait to go back to Antarctica because it's way prettier there. Of course, that wouldn't explain the part where she sings about the world below the ice, but I think she might just be using her imagination saying that we don't really know what's below the ice. The animals underneath could be doing whatever, having a good time just like us humans do. That was my literal take on it. This is what I thought when i first heard the song before looking at it too deeply.
WHAT A GOOD SONG
i love it too. and i would love to know what the hell it means
This might be a shot in the dark...
But spawning off of the verse... 'Under ice there's a world moving slow Carnelian stars and the bars down below Serve only vodka and gin I try to stay drunk so nobody knows'
Maybe the world/stars/bars happen to be the writers personality/self. The point of drinking would be to mask it because it feels good (and nobody knows there's a world underneath the ice of the booze).
I would suppose the first two chunks would be leaving behind everything for the booze and hitting the vodka hard because 'I can't wait anymore'.
The verse pertaining to morning might be symbolic of that state where you're completely numbed by drink and feeling good about it.
Perhaps getting back to the city might be relating to sobering up and getting on with life?
Like I said... I'm way overtired and I'm probably way off.
i think you have some good ideas especially because the last two lines, "and the howling so loud that it alone drowns out the inside of me"

its as if shes hiding her true self like you said earlier

i wanna go to antarctica :)
Yeah this is definitely about drinking. "howling so loud that it alone drowns out the inside of me." She's using alcohol to "drown out" her inner turmoil. I think she returns to reality at the end of the song. The morning line refers to waking up after a night of boozing, I assume. They do tend to seem a lot brighter! ;)
i could be wrong, but isnt the writing on a bottle of "skyy" vodka white on a blue bottle?

My guess is life outside of the city. The singer is from new england where the winters can be harsh but maybe at the time she/he was living in Boston. Its kinda like living upstate Ny and traveling to NYC. The experience of the two worlds and sceneries.
